Someone took the original Mario Bros 6502 assembly code and converted it to 68000 assembly and fiddled around with it until it ran on the Genesis. The graphics and gameplay are completely unchanged. The ROM is downloadable in the description of the video, which is located here.

So wait, Genesis does what NintenDO?
And I'm excited to see a port that actually works.

Now we just need to convert 65c186 (SNES) code to 68000 (Genesis) code.

It is debatable to whether or not it would work. The SNES has a slower CPU clock speed than Genesis, so basic programs may be able to run, but the SNES has special graphics modes the Genesis does not support. 32x addons could give the additional computer power required to emulate these, however.

Well, maybe the SNES to Genesis conversion could be a downgrade of sorts? Just sayin'.
Oh, and on a side note that is somewhat unrelated, someone should add the characters from Super Mario Bros. Crossover to the actual game. It's an idea.
