Sorry, but I don't really require any help right now. If you want, I'll help you start your own ratings thread.

Could you rate Blue Pixel when you get the chance? The link is in my signature. There is no music, but that's only because I am terrible at making music. Thanks!

I'll rate this, as now I will rate games every Tuesdays and Thursdays alongside pokegar. If you would like a rating from her, you could say so  smile  I hope my ratings are good enough for you, though, I'll try my best. So here goes:

Graphics: 4/10
Programming: 6/10
Plot: 4/10
"Fun-ness": 8/10

Overall: 22/40 - 0.55 - ★★★ (3 stars)

What a simple yet fun game. I mean there's no plot, no music, not very good graphics, but that simplicity is what makes the game so great! I decided to throw in the "Fun-ness" category since under Pokegar's current scoring system, the game would have too low a score than it should deserve. Once you've started playing, you just can't stop until you have the high score.  I would like to comment on one thing, however: the arrow keys don't control the player properly. Instead of going straight up or down, it goes at 45 degree angles, which is confusing if you use arrow keys. I suggest using letter keys instead as most keyboards have them at angles. I wouldn't change the way the player moves, moving at an angle is great, but since arrow keys suggest moving straight up, down, left, or right, it can get confusing. Also, you should get into the habit of forming longer scripts instead of many short scripts as that can become less reliable and messy for larger, more complex projects.

Summary: A very very simple yet fun game that just needs some technical tweaks.  smile

Re: Game Ratings!

Thanks for the great review, I'm glad that you like it. The controls area a little difficult to grasp, but I at least got the hang of it. I used short scripts because many of them include a repeat until or wait block that would cause other blocks in the script to not execute correctly. Plus I'm a little out of practice. I'm going to try to make this a work in progress and keep adding thing as I think of them.

Not really much of a game, more of a simulation, but I'll try. Also, I don't play minecraft, so this might not be the rating you'd expect.

Plot: 1/5
Graphics: 6/10
Programming: 7/10
Fun-ness: 5/10

Overall: 19/35 - 0.54 - ★★★ (3 stars)

This seems to be a very simple program. Graphics are okay, but what's pulling you down is that you don't have an animation for the person. The programming is a bit simple, you could have made a save system by saving the grid onto a list. Also, maybe you should have added a highlight showing where your current block is (if it's inside several blocks, you can't tell where it is. There is not much plot. And as it's not much of a game, there's little fun.

Summary: sorry if this review wasn't what you expected but I don't get it that much and i'm kind of in the hurry. Maybe you should expand the features a bit. Good luck and happy programming  smile

Good Luck

I was a little wierded out by the title... why is it jhnewbol? The title screen was great! You've got talent and I like your somewhat-messy-yet-neat-at-the-same-time style! The intro animation with the torch was really cool! I love your graphics! The only reason you didnt get that last point was because I didnt like you you had actual pictures for the house on the map and the frog player. But I couldnt find where you customize it and I typed in my name and it did  nothing... Also, the control was pretty bad. the frog didn't move smoothly. a frog jump/hop thing for the walking would be cool! The plot was unique but the game was too short. The game needs work but you've got great graphics! You may want to collaborate with another programmer. That will get the game to its full potential. Getting help is a good thing!

Thanks, scratch on!

Wow! Thanks for the detailed review--what a gift. The title is temporary: the project is a submission for a computer programming class I started at the end of August, and we had to use our fas account user names. (I've been programming for a little over a week at this point; C is proving much more intimidating than Scratch!) The effects for the typing inputs with the frog seem to work a little wonkily with the Javascript player on this website; the Flash player does better, and of course download works best of all. Are you using a long name? The effects are triggered by the vowels--the ones for 'i' and for 'o' are especially nice.

Frog hop/jump would be very cool for the stages where the frog is full-sized (I'd leave more precise controls on for the one where touching black takes the frog back to the start). What would code for that look like? Doing two glide movements where a.) the 'x' movement is 'add 1' and the 'y' movement 'add 1', and b.) the 'x' movement is 'add 1' and the 'y' movement is 'minus 1', and make the time to do such glides very short, ~0.25 sec? Would that work?

I'd love to modify the game further to fix these elements & expand the game as a whole; I'm sure working with a collaborator would be wonderful! Unfortunately, I need to wait until after the project is graded before making any further changes.

Thanks again for taking the time & giving me such encouragement: the community here is really something special, and I'm glad I went looking for it.

p.s. Out of curiosity...did you manage to get all the points? I'm particularly proud of the fly with the randomized flight path that can be triggered in the room with the painting.

I don't think so. Cool, you randomized it? That sounds really epic.

A pretty neat tool to use, really. The programming is quite good. I like how concise it is, and good job using lists to store answers! I also like how user-friendly the programming is, so that others can easily create quizzes using that template, though you could have added some in-project comments as a guide instead of making a forum post about it. It could be cleaned up a bit, and I'm personally a fan of using less scripts, but making them longer. The most it is lacking in, though, is graphics. You could have made some animations like fading in and out between questions, or making a choice highlight if the mouse is on it. Not too difficult, but I'm guessing you wanted the person using the template for a quiz to make the graphics themselves.

Overall, pretty nice. Very user-friendly but could have some better graphics.
PS: I like the idea of using this for school presentations, like a quiz at the end, but I already use powerpoint for that (yes, you can make multiple choice quizzes).

Hello, you may remember me from my game Raw Sushi: Cowboy Style, which you've reviewed with an agreeable score. Now, I made a second game; Theory 1.

I hope you enjoy it, but its quite short due to the fact its just an introduction to the Theory series, but I decided it would be a game instead of some text.
