So sorry but no chatrooms.
Scratch wasn't meant for chatrooms anyway

@ferret10 - Maybe Scratch wasn't but other places were! And the "Chatroom" projects just take up too much space

I agree with andresmh

Opps. My ip is blocked from that IRC server... There is no one to mod the IRCchat.
I'll take it down for a while

Your IP must have been accidentally blocked because you did absolutely nothing wrong

My opinion:
I'm (almost) 15, so it's not a huge problem for people my age, but most of the Scratch population is more around 8 or 9.
If I were the parent of an 8 year old, I would not want them going to a site where they can live-chat with people that they have not even met.
Conclusion: Whoever banned Buddy's IP (24.80.163.135), thank you.

I believe the comment block (or something similar) is scheduled to be re-released this summer with 1.3. I'm really looking forward to it!
1.3.1 is out, and it STILL hasn't been put in!

Well, the Comment Block turned into the Comment Sticky Note which is very useful in it's own right. Just right-click on the backround of the scripting area and choose "add comment".

I did make a chatroom once but it never worked out. I have a real-life friend but he can't read or write
I still don't fully understand why chatrooms are not allowed.
Anyways I'll check out some of the outer-Scratch chatrooms sometime and if anyone else has one I'd love to take a look.

There has been a lot of talk about having chatrooms in Scratch.
The Scratch website does not and (most likely) will never have chatrooms. We do not have the resources or the interest at this point to support the monitoring of chatrooms. User-driven monitoring is not an option for a chatroom that involves minors. We have enough work with dealing with the projects and comments on the site as it is right now.
So sorry but no chatrooms.
We also want to discourage people from using the forums, galleries and projects as a chatrooms.
As you might know some members have created their own websites with forums and even chatrooms. You are free to do that as it is outside the realm of what Scratch is about. You might also have noticed that a few users were arguing about the list of chatrooms. So if that happens just with a list of chatrooms imagine what happens with the chatrooms themselves
Anyway, if you have anything to say about this topic this is the thread where it should be posted. Any other threads about chatrooms will be closed as they do not seem to provide any valuable information about Scratch.
Thank you and feel free to contac us if you have any questions.
Scratch on!
Good idea to not have a chat room (or else it'll end up like KinzParty did, where the government had to moderate it).

Ok, I got I question. How bout if you made a project, one of your friends commented, you are pretty much on the same topic as the project, it gets really long, and you start talking about if they can fanart, then you talk about when you need to BRB or GTG, and stuff, would that be ok? Because my friends do that.

If it's related to the project or Scratch in general, it is fine. It's when it turns into non-Scratch related chat that it gets to be a problem. Hope that helps

Most chat services require you to be 13 or older.

Chatrooms! CHATROOMS! CHATROOMS!!!!!!!!! That would rock!!!! It would be awesome if Scratch would have chatrooms here on Scratch! I would talk to my friends on Toontown or Club Penguin. Still, I don't think I would be allowed to do it, but there's always later!

I wish that people would stop asking about chatrooms, so it's great that you've put this up, Andres. It lets more people know about it all...
