I'm not sure if I should try, but I'm thinking about it.
I just wanna ask some questions about becoming a mod and such.
I would prefer answers from an actual mod or a Scratch Team member or whatever.
Here are my questions:
-How does one become a mod?
-What are things that you have to watch out for if you become one?
-Is there a secret place where mods and such come to discuss?
-What power and capabilities do mods have?
I might have more questions later, but for now, I'll just stick to these.
P.S. I know I'm not perfect and I have done some things on Scratch in the past that I'm not proud of, but I'm trying to forget that and look to the future. I wanna become part of something big.

.
They get voted for by scratch members.
an announcement about applying for a mod. soon enough, they'll choose four scratchers for the election.
Yes, but it's only visible to mods (cheddargirl said so i think)
close topics, delete posts, and delete topics. they can also re-open and change names of topics

Some I answered:
-How does one become a mod? You have to run for a moderator election, get in the final # of people to get voted (I think), and then get voted the most.
-Is there a secret place where mods and such come to discuss? Yes.
-What power and capabilities do mods have? The few I know are locking topics, opening topics, changing name's of the topics, deleting posts, and editing posts.
EDIT: outposted

On a mod elections topic, I think.
I don't think there are any new mod elections now, though.

I thought I saw one just recently. Aww...oh well.
I guess I'll just have to wait awhile.

I do think the ultimate decision of who becomes mod is done by the ST.

Surprisingly enough, it actually isn't done by the Scratch team. They simply choose the final candidates, but the person who receives the most "points" becomes elected.
1. If you are 13 or older, you can nominate yourself in the next elections. There probably will not be elections for a long time now. Our remaining moderator spot after some changes was filled, and we may not need another moderator for a long time.
2. I'm not sure what you mean by this. Could you elaborate?
3. The moderators have their own forum, as well as the dustbin.
4. Moving, locking, editing [and renaming], deleting, posting in announcements, and I think that's it. Keep in mind, being a moderator isn't about gaining new powers, it is about being a trusted, responsible member of the community.

Yeah, but the Scratch Team is the one who examines the votes, right?
Thanks for the info, by the way!

-How does one become a mod? - You have to run and win an election.
-What are things that you have to watch out for if you become one? - I'm not sure what you mean but you should always look behind your shoulder now and again to watch out for ninjas (jk)
-Is there a secret place where mods and such come to discuss? - Yes, it is a forum hidden from normal scratchers.
-What power and capabilities do mods have? Ban users (although this is done by the ST), rename topics, post in closed forums, edit other's posts, delete topics, move topics etc.

Yeah, she did. I just wanted to verify that it's true.

Seems like everyone else has most of the question down pat. But in regards to the question "What are things that you have to watch out for if you become one?", you may want to read Chronicles of a Moderator: Moderating & the Responsibilities Involved and the Community Moderator Info Page.

I thought moderators could ban on the forums, but only for extreme cases or commercial spammers...?

They have the ability, but leave that kind of serious stuff to the ST
