I wouldn't use McAfee; it's a resource hog and has lots of false alarms.

Personally, I use Avast, although Avira and AVG come widely recommended too.

And it's always a good idea to get an antivirus for your Mac too. Malware for OS X may be less common than it is for Windows, but you're still not immune. Safety by obscurity. (Basically, OS X doesn't have better security, but no one really bothers making malware for it because Windows is such a larger target.)

Haven't had any problems I couldn't fix with that combo.

I have norton(which is by symantic) and windows defender comes default with vista... but what is malwarebytes?

Malwarebytes is a program that defends and removes malware and spyware. There is both a free and paid version.

It says that my free trial ran out. Is there one that is free but not a trial?

There's a free version that allows you to scan for and remove malware, but doesn't offer real-time protection.

Thanks. It will pair perfectly with my avast. I need to uninstall McAfee security suite since I never activated it and it keeps popping up

It's more related to what you do while on the computer. If you visit a lot of risky sites or go downloading executables from untrustworthy sources, you risk getting infected. If you only stay on sites you know you can trust, your risk goes way down. Regardless, it's still a really bad idea to ever go without AV of some kind.

Avast is a free and fast antivirus which will save u from all the threats .. .. but if they come in panda is a b8r solution because it can quaterine most of the win32 files to save ur executables .
