Best Antivirus?

I have Norton and I have always had Norton but I heard McAfee and Trend Micro are better? What are your opinions?

Also, will I need an antivirus on my Mac?

Re: Best Antivirus?

I wouldn't use McAfee; it's a resource hog and has lots of false alarms.

Personally, I use Avast, although Avira and AVG come widely recommended too.

And it's always a good idea to get an antivirus for your Mac too. Malware for OS X may be less common than it is for Windows, but you're still not immune. Safety by obscurity. (Basically, OS X doesn't have better security, but no one really bothers making malware for it because Windows is such a larger target.)

Microsoft Security Essentials. It takes care of the problems, no annoying pop-ups, no false alarms.

Malwarebytes is a program that defends and removes malware and spyware. There is both a free and paid version.

Malwarebytes FTW!

My uncle uses it, he is a teacher in the computer lab of a school.

That, WDefender, and Malwarebytes are godlike.

It says that my free trial ran out. Is there one that is free but not a trial?

There's a free version that allows you to scan for and remove malware, but doesn't offer real-time protection.

Probably the best malware scanning/removal tool you'll ever find.

Re: Best Antivirus?

I don't use any antivirus at all and I've yet to encounter a single one of those nasty fellows. Personally, I think antivirus software are a virus in themselves.  tongue

My sister, however, has always used some antivirus software and has had to wipe her computer monthly for the past few years...  hmm

It's more related to what you do while on the computer. If you visit a lot of risky sites or go downloading executables from untrustworthy sources, you risk getting infected. If you only stay on sites you know you can trust, your risk goes way down. Regardless, it's still a really bad idea to ever go without AV of some kind.
