Are you thinking of Windows 7?

Yes, windows. This "Windows 8" doesn't have windows.
What "antitrust lawsuit fiasco?"
Microsoft was sued a while back for almost forcing users to use IE.

Windows 7 was a good improvement to Vista, which was in turn a big improvement to XP.
But Windows 8 looks really different, harder to use (it's like iOS's "intuitive" platform) and moving towards an Apple-style approach to computing.
The mockup you made looks really great, finish it and submit it to MS!![]()
Vista and 7 are the opposite of improvements to XP in my opinion.
7>XP>Vista>2000
My opinion. 7 is epic. It's vista fixed.

Oh. Then illusionist's chart would be right: Windows (IE) users are losers.

Pretty much, yes. IE was so baked into the operating system that there was no way to actually remove it, and doing so caused Windows to effectively stop working, because Windows explorer was built around it.
And yes, there are no "windows" in the old sense in the new UI. However, you'll notice you can still view programs next to each other. It may or may not work out, but remember that every time someone made big change in the past, people grumbled about how different it was, but here we are using those changes today perfectly fine.

Well, you can't have 5 windows next to each other like this. And no quick Alt + Tab to switch windows either.
I've spent years memorizing shortcuts, and now they want to get rid of the keyboard. ^^

You don't know that for sure, and who said they're getting rid of the keyboard? This is designed for touch and kb/mouse.

MS has a habit of stopping support services for outdated OSes...

I hate how much it looks like a phone. I will always use a mouse and keyboard for my main laptop, NOT a touchscreen! I also use Chrome for everything, and hate how sluggish Internet Explorer... this OS is gonna crash and burn. Worse than Vista.
Windows 7 works awesome with Chrome on my laptop. The only touch-related thing is my trackpad. Microsoft should [blocks]<hide>[/blocks] and come back in a few years.

I saw it... it's just Windows Mobile brought to the computer. Here are some advantages and disadvantages of this thing:
ADVANTAGES- It's no longer a PC now, but rather, a "multitude" of things brought to your fingertips- basically convenience and quasi-innovation (quasi- because it's Apple thought of this a LONG time ago)
DISADVANTAGES:
They're just copying Apple, and I think Microsoft also intends to create tablets and touchscreen devices instead of normal computers... But then there is no more originality! The "good old" taskbar, Start Menu, and icons were original. People eventually started copying them, but Microsoft always came first. However, this time they're trying to copy Apple's iOS, and then the "alive" originality is now dead- it is now a concept that was already thought by someone before, and then the new Windows is just copying it, and bringing it out. How disappointing! I thought Microsoft was capable of MORE.
@16skittles: You're right, it should be "Windows" 8, not Windows "8." But it's true that it's only the 8th version Windows NT-based OSs, not the 8th Windows OS, so the title should be more like "Windows" 8/Windows "8."I believe Windows 8 is just a working name, and they're going to call it something else when they actually release.
But how is this anything like iOS? Because it uses a minimalist interface with mostly full screen apps? If anything, it's closer to a version of WP7 optimized for larger screens and a more powerful desktop environment. Nothing like this has been done with a desktop OS before, so I'd say MS is taking a huge risk and really doing something new here.
No, I heard somewhere that Windows 8 will have "apps" and an app store, and all the apps are in a specific format the way the iPhone apps are. What that means is no Scratch or any other exe files.

I'm sure it'll have compatability for .exe files in someway, they can't have come this far just to alienate all their current users and developers.

The idea of a tablet is horrible. Its just like the iPhone and the iPad, except Windows 8 is the "oversized Windows Phone that can't make phone calls," IMO. Plus, tablets are not powerful enough to run all the stuff that Windows needs. The result? FREQUENT CRASHES. They won't have enough memory and/or hard drive space to handle everything that the average computer user needs. Plus, I don't like tablets- after pressing on things with my fingers, the screen gets so oily that I can't even see whats on my screen. I'm using an iPad right now to post this reply, and its horrible (freezes every now and then).
Gaming performance on tablets will be horrible too. And what about playing Pong, Snake, or any similar game? I wont be able to use the mouse to move the paddle or navigate the snake because there is no mouse. And I'll protest by saying to Microsoft: Either I'm not upgrading to Windows 8 or I'm getting a Mac. Or a Linux.

You could just keep your old computer, that way you will at least still have a slightly out of date OS that you can work with.

There are loads of posts that follow the lines of "Windows isn't Windows anymore".
Well, how come, when Windows XP came out, you didn't say that? Take a look at Windows 1.0. It's totally different from XP. My point is, we change, and things adapt to our change. I'd go a little OCD-ish too, but it's natural for things to develop, to the wrong or to the right.

Exactly. Everytime someone makes a major change in the way we use an operating system, it's dismissed as though it will never work and the old way is so much better. Then 10 years later everyone can't imagine it any other way. And then the cycle repeats.

Very true, yet don't you think it slightly ironic that Windows is doing away with the windows feature? Granted it is all fancy with touch screen and everything, but do you happen to have a touch screen monitor? Because I don't. I know they said on the video that it would work with a mouse, but they never should that. Plus he mentioed thumb controls, does this mean that it's all going to be inside one case? Or maybe a wireless screen? Or a touch screen thats wired to a tower?

It's only one video of probably many; we don't know how mouse/keyboard control will work yet. It looks awfully touch-centric, but I don't see how it's fair to say it won't work until you actually see it in action. In other words: don't knock it 'till you try it.
