Brainwashing

I've read a book which I shall not mention because it's inappropriate for Scratch and I don't want people going off to read it, and I've discovered exactly how to brainwash someone. All you need is around 30-50 helpers and a thousand dollars at most.

Brainwashing is easy just follow these steps.

Keep them stupid.
Keep them poor.
Keep them busy.
And most importantly tell them they are happy!  smile

To discuss brainwashing in general.

@What-the-Close, but it depends on the context of the brainwashing... for example, in the book it's a cult. They make it hard to quit the cult by making the brainwashee financially dependent on the cult, and feeding them tales of "the devil will get you".

Is it a part of a series? Is the cult in Australia? Is there a boy named Rathbone?

You guessed it! I thought nobody read [book series] nowadays! Still, that little "prank" Rat pulled off on James... maybe we shouldn't post stuff like that on the forums.

Personally I didn't think it was a very good series.

The book is fiction, but the methods of brainwashing are REAL.

Also, can we get this back on topic? This is for you to discuss brainwashing in general, not to discuss the series.

Re: Brainwashing

Brainwashing is easy.

Tie them to a chair. Use these mechanical arms to keep their eyes open. Make them watch some video about what you want them to think.

There you go.

Yup. The problem is, most people don't think they're going to be brainwashed, so they allow it to happen to them.

Re: Brainwashing

Well the real problem is most people want to be brainwashed so badly that they put themselves into the trance themselves.
Suggestions can be hypnotic too.
For example, you now notice how you are breathing, and suddenly, it becomes harder to breathe. Also there are bugs crawling all over you, so now you'll imagine that you felt something crawl across your arm. A needle is coming directly at your eyeball. Congratulations, your eye now hurts. Presumably it will be the left eye.
