One of the best ideas, ever. Well, atleast out of what I've seen so far.

You can paint the materials anywhere you like on the sprite in the paint editor
You'd also be able to paint them on the stage, right? Also, really great idea - this would help out a lot with platformers!

It is only achieved using different colors on the sides of the sprite which looks a bit quirky. Or creating an entirely new sprite to follow it around with ghost affect sensing for them, this is also glitchy and doesn't entirely make sense.

Sounds interesting. However, this is pretty easily achieved already, so I'm not sure if it's worth the effort.
Invisible sensing sprites aren't glitchy and really aren't that hard.
Harakou, sensing sprites really just add clutter and complicate things, even if they aren't glitchy and aren't hard. It would be much easier with materials.

thanks, don't forget to vote in scratch suggestions for it if you want it

Harokuo, why do you not like this idea? i could help scratch. just because there are other ways to work around having to have this doesn't mean it should be added.
Well, if it's a fairly easy workaround (and rather limited uses for the new feature) I can see where Harakou may think this idea isn't necessary. However, I don't believe they said they disliked the idea, just that it isn't worth the effort.
It's quite a simple workaround, really.
but with invisible material sensing, you could stamp materials. now that would be helpful!

yes, you could

This is a really good idea, and I support, but I think that new scratchers might have a hard time grasping the concept...
Other than that, I think this is really an amazing idea.
if you like the idea, vote in the suggestions (link on first post) Thank you!

I think it might be good, but it would be too much trouble for the Scratch Team. Also new scratchers would probably have trouble with it. Also, color sensing or sensing sprites isn't hard at all. Good idea though! It'd be easier than color sensing or sensing sprites, and it would help 1s1s games.
I'd vote, but I'm out of votes.

well, with invisible material sensing you could stamp materials, that would be very helpful.

I support! Whenever I hide a sprite and use it for speech bubble purposes (the character I want to talk is in the background) it won't show because the sprite is hiding, so I just set the ghost effect to 99%. But I 100% support!
EDIT- This is my 400th post!

Good idea... Limited use though and may confuse new Scratchers.

I 500% agree with you.

This makes it easier.

I agree with others - it would be a bit of a waste of time to make to make that feature, as it can easily be worked around, and there's probably more important things to work on at the moment.
Plus, I fear that's getting a bit too complicated, as Scratch is supposed to be for all ages.

Well, I support. However, the only problem with this is that it would be had for the Scratch Team to explain so younger scratchers could understand. But, I like this idea!

Like many other already said, (I don't want to read through 3 pages)
this seems like a good idea, but could get complicated. Who said colors had to look ugly? Color sensing is another costume on the sprite. The game switches to it, makes adjustments and switches back to original so fast you can't see it happen...

That's not how color sensing works. Scratch is not fast enough to let sprites switch costume fast enough for you not to be able to see. The truth of the matter is, color sensing is ugly right now.
