Maybe not a separate .exe compiler, but the text option is pretty bad. Maybe they should try and mimic some of the effects on Photoshop and GIMP. The PE is one of things that lets it down

Agreed, the text option is kind of pretty bad (especially considering the invisible text bug that is been going around) - it would be nice of all the text wasn't on one separate layer and it could be embedded right there into the image.
I don't think we really need the have too much of the same effects as with Photoshop and GIMP, though - anyone who uses Photoshop and GIMP knows that those programs are usually memory hogs, I'm a bit concerned that adding similar Photoshop and GIMP effects in Scratch will bog Scratch down, which we don't want.

I suppose it could get a bit bogged, but maybe just one simple effect like 'Blur' or 'Shine' or something small. That wouldn't slow it down too much. Maybe they should also add a 'text box' tool, so on one sprite you can have different fonts and font sizes.

Mnn, I think, for that, the color detection should be improved first (Scratch can't tell the differences between certain shades of color).
I think the better option would be to use some kind of integration between Scratch and the image editor of a person's choosing - ie. instead of the default paint editor, clicking on the option to create a new image would open up the computer's default image editor, and, when done, would import the image into Scratch. At least that way there isn't the issue of a top-heavy paint editor bogging Scratch down.
