Should I Stop Joking Like This?

I responded to 08jackt's comment on his project "stop tah spam people" saying "Don't be mean. I like 08jackt's project, and you're being really mean to him! This project isn't spam!" I thought it was obvious that I was kidding, but apparently, it wasn't, and now I'm being used as the next epic fail in Scratcher's Weekly.

Should I just stop joking like this altogether? I enjoy acting ignorant...

Ah, I've seen cases like this before. You must remember that, on the internet, comments can often not be perceived as intended, so it is important to think about what is being posted before the post if officially submitted.

There are cases where things should be ignored; this is one of those cases where showing ignorance to the situation is not good. Your comment was perceived as being hurtful; I would suggest thinking about what was said, and, in the future, watch what you type and submit.

It wasn't quite perceived as being hurtful, but rather they thought I didn't realize I was talking to 08jackt xD.

Regardless, this is true. I should think more before I joke around on the internet.

Well, as stated before, jokes often don't come off the way as intended on the internet (hence why others perceived your comment as an attack rather than as a joke). So it's still best to be careful to watch what is being written.

Re: Should I Stop Joking Like This?

Hey cheddargirl in Scratchers Weekly there is an epic fail section where the user shows off a "fail" comment made by a random user. Obviously not everyone thinks it's funny, so wouldn't that be against the TOU?

I'm graduating HS this April and going to college in the Fall.

I would say that it's against "Be Friendly" and "Be Respectful". If a new user is commenting and they "don't know their way around Scratch", then they might be really discouraged to find that they "did something wrong" and ended up on the epic fail.

It most likely might be (I haven't seen what this "fail" comment is, so it's hard to say here). The Terms of Use calls for users to be respectful and keep the site friendly, so if the "fail" comment is used to make fun of another user, then it's possible that it would be perceived as breaking the Term of Use.

It is used to make fun of other users. In the last issue, he just found a random project, posted a link to it, and told everyone to spam "speghetti pickle" on it. The project got front page, but it had over 400 "speghetti pickle" comments.

Yeah, that would be really annoying if you were trying to look for a few serious comments. I can see why the kid was mad about the spaghetti pickle comments.

Then yes, it would be against the TOU.

Who told everyone to spam 'speghetti pickle'?
08jackt?

No, but we can't say who because it'd be 'gossip' in a way.
