Yeah. To be honest, I'm not too fussed with mods anyway. Besides, it sounds like Scratch 2.0 is finally going to catch up with the mods.

Scratch shouldn't be rewritten in Flash. It was always in Squeak, and it worked out fine. It should stay the way it is. Also, what about mods? There would be no more mods, because they're in squeak. Flash won't do Scratch as well as squeak could. Shift-click r might work, but it would be in a different language. All of the mods, Slash, BYOB, Panther, Streak, ect, would all die out from the transfer.

Yes, I agree.
Squeak is a lot better. Offline Flash is terrible, and Flash has lots of security holes. In particular, you would have to have "just the right version" of Flash. Not so in Java. Bye bye, Flash!fullmoon wrote:
The advantages of using Squeak are clear:
- It is totally open-source, which is more in accordance with the philosophy of Scratch
- It is dynamic in the same way Scratch is
- It might actually be faster (runs at a lower level of abstraction) than Flash, although I'm not sure.PW132 wrote:
Compatibility issues: If the WHOLE of Scratch is re-programmed, old files may become out dated and have issues in a flash version.
No right click.
Flash crashes some computers.
Some kind of online Squeak VM could be used instead. (link to forums)
(more to come)

Squeak running in a browser is very uncommon

I think that's the point Random is trying to make.

5 percent support.

NOOO!!! THEY...They DID it! Oh well, they made it optional, fortunatly

It has NO SENSE to keep it in Squeak! Flash is faster and better, most people have Flash, it actually uses less memory, so.... About the mods, as some1 said before me, Scratch 2 is gonna catch up!

I'd support Flash if it weren't for all of its bugs
But integrating Scratch into the website itself seems like a good idea to me

The one thing that I have to say is...FLASH HAS NO RIGHT CLICKING SUPPORT except for it's settings menu.
you can change what the right click menu says.

Also, another point that I believe in is size, will Scratch still be the usual file size of 50MB or will the size increase to close to 1GB, I know tihs might not matter to you, but I 'm trying to limit GB usuage as I am limited to 3GB a day.

I'm at some fancy hotel with a limit of 512 Kb/day

What?! That's how much I use in a month.

squeak: lotsa stuff on screen, text disapears
flash: lotsa stuff on screen, a little lag but it won't do anything wrong
squeak: upload limit
flash: unlimited upload
squeak: get new comp, all your work not present (gone)
flash: get new comp, cloud storage brings projects to you
squeak: choppy graphics
flash: vector (smoothe no matter how small) graphics
squeak: down right slow
flash: very fast
squeak: needs to be downloaded
flash: download the plugin but nothing else
squeak: move a large script and wait a minute
flash: move a large script and no wait
plus it wont make mods disapear, it would encourage the modders to do a better job and maybe even make their mods better then 2.0
and plus if you don't wanna use it online there is always a downloadable version, honest
squeak: hard
actionscript: easy
squeak: Bad
flash: good

I think you should make a Java/flash switcher

I agree, some people have limited internet connection, my may mean they only have time for downloading scratch before it goes bust, not all computers can run flash, and flash isn't open source like squeak, and isn't being creative THE WHOLE POINT of scratch?

Squeak is slow. What reason do you have to say that Scratch won't run as well in Flash? You never said why, or how, and the truth is, Flash is much more powerful and faster than Squeak.

What if, there was an online flash version, but you could also download an offline, squeak version?

Just decompile it. Then you can mod it and recompile. And they may even release the Scratch 2.0 source code in flash.

It's called the downloadable version.

To be completely honest, I'm done with Scratch. The future of block-based editing is Snap! (see sig) JavaScript over Flash is the obvious choice.
