Scratch

It's common for communities to want a point system.  However, scratch is a creative community, not competitive.

According to Yahoo, points would likely do more harm than good in our case.

But Yahoo has other patterns that could help us. Take a read through these.

How about a ranking system where you can unlock new forum titles. Like if you make 5 wiki articles you can pick a wiki contributer title. If you submit 10 projects you unlock another title. Not really making anything competitve but encouraging users to do stuff.

Obviously making a point system ranking users on views and loveits is a terrible idea, but I think some sort of ranking thing may work.

Ok, I think you misunderstood. There would be 1 unlockable forum title if you contribute to the wiki. This would easily be achieved by anyone and shows that you have postively contributed to the site. There would also be other 1 time unlockable titles for other things.

So with this idea, there is no "getting famous" since anyone can unlock the ranks and anyone can achieve these ranks (forum titles) so everyone is at pretty much the same level.

No, but whether you want to help a lot, or just make a few edits, just about anybody can request an account, as long as you don't have a bad history in the Scratch community    . See this topic.

You also disagree with yahoo.  Please read their reasoning. Scratch is not a competitive site, it's creative and cooperative... or at least should be.  Look at their other suggestions like user achievements.

still dont agree some people cant contribute to the scratch wiki so just the people who are famous can get on. 

There's a line apparently, it has nothing to do with fame.

so that means the scratch team doesnt check the wiki articles before the are posted???
