I like the post counts! It helps me see how I am doing as a community member.
(Post count != usefulness to community, but it lets me know quantitatively how much I have contributed.)Unfortunately, for some it's just quantity, not quality.
I Have Very Few Posts, I Get Scared I Might Upset Someone Or Offend Them, I Dont Post So Much, I Only Have Given 23 Comments And 13 Messages To Me, I Have Given Usefull Advice To People, And Given Very Good Suggestions And Ideas Of How To Improve Their Projects Alot, Like That Plinko_2.0 Engine, It Could Be Improved By Using One Sprite To Make The Bars, Having It Using Pointing, And Checking If Color Touching Color, and having it go to the positions and stamping, it could be improved ten times!
Just From That One Change!

It's common for communities to want a point system. However, scratch is a creative community, not competitive.
According to Yahoo, points would likely do more harm than good in our case.
But Yahoo has other patterns that could help us. Take a read through these.

How about a ranking system where you can unlock new forum titles. Like if you make 5 wiki articles you can pick a wiki contributer title. If you submit 10 projects you unlock another title. Not really making anything competitve but encouraging users to do stuff.
Obviously making a point system ranking users on views and loveits is a terrible idea, but I think some sort of ranking thing may work.

You have to make wiki pages to become a better rank? scratch is about programming not becoming famous and getting ranked from creating wiki articles.

Ok, I think you misunderstood. There would be 1 unlockable forum title if you contribute to the wiki. This would easily be achieved by anyone and shows that you have postively contributed to the site. There would also be other 1 time unlockable titles for other things.
So with this idea, there is no "getting famous" since anyone can unlock the ranks and anyone can achieve these ranks (forum titles) so everyone is at pretty much the same level.

Yeah, something like this could work.
Have collectible achievements. Those are pretty good, because they're small numbers, perhaps 1 may be better even. so that it does not encourage low quality, just to get the achievement.
What are some other achievements?
- Use the X block in a project.
- Complete a tutorial, and post your results.
...
(Although I don't think achievements should only be listed on the forum. Also, the forum as-is segregates the community, I would hope for something more integrated with the rest of the site, but that's another topic.)

No, but whether you want to help a lot, or just make a few edits, just about anybody can request an account, as long as you don't have a bad history in the Scratch community . See this topic.

You also disagree with yahoo. Please read their reasoning. Scratch is not a competitive site, it's creative and cooperative... or at least should be. Look at their other suggestions like user achievements.

still dont agree some people cant contribute to the scratch wiki so just the people who are famous can get on.

There's a line apparently, it has nothing to do with fame.

The Scratch Wiki is not available to everyone to prevent vandalism - you can request an account here.
Please try to keep your posts relevant to the topic - you can make your own thread if you want

I dont think the scratch team would want to do that because it could easily discourage people. Theres been several suggestions similar to this and I dont think any of them are going to happen. Sorry! :p
