Go JavaScript! How is javascript any easier than actionscript?
Maybe because I know JavaScript not ActionScript?
Other way round for me

ActionScript code is free form and thus may be created with whichever amount or style of whitespace that the author desires. The basic syntax is derived from ECMAScript.

JavaScript is not in anyway related to Java.
*sighs*
JavaScript can be used to write scripts for your websites. But not applets.
Java is what you're talking about. What you think you're talking about.
JavaScript is not related to ActionScript LOL.
anyways, I much prefer squeak and java, but that's just me. I mean, the online player could benefit from being in flash, could it not?

I agree with this, and I'm not sure if anyone realized this, but you wouldn't be able to right click. That would fail right away.
You can right click in Flash.
If you right click in flash, it says "About Flash Player X..." under "Settings..."
or something like that, doesn't it? I've never seen a flash project where you can input a right click function.
Also, I swear people need to learn the difference between Javascript and Actionscript.

This all about you. I forgot.

You can edit the right click stuff, I think. I've seen people put something like "cheater" or a link to the creator's site in a right click menu.

I also think Scratch is good as it is in Java, but it would be more convenient in flash. For example, if it was in Flash, you could be able to play it on gaming consoles such as the Nintendo Wii (Wii currently does not support Java, but does support Flash). Also, I do agree that it should be available in online and offline mode. Also, I have to state that it is a very tough decision of whether Java or Flash, Online or Offline, etc., etc.

I like flash, and you never know how its going to turn out until they've made it, and if you don't like it, then you can just go back to 1.4! The mods won't die out, the well grounded ones like Panther, BYOB, Slash, and all the other ones which are known about on the forums, they're going to be fine! So stop worrying and just wait until 2.0 comes out, you never know, the Scratch Team might surprise us with an amazing new version of Scratch.

Of course it going to be good, it's a new version of Scratch!

Honestly, my mom's internet is as slow as a snail cause she has DSL. She cant get verizon or comcast or xfinity cause she lives too far away. So, I oppose the idea of flash. (Well, OK, I have to agree with the idea for the online player, but offline should stay Squeak.)

There will be a downloadable version - Flash can run offline.
Besides, after the applet loads, the speed of your internet connection has little to do with the speed of the applet.

Yeah, but doesn't Flash cost money? I don't like to pay for stuff over the internet; I'm not old enough.

The Flash player (which Scratch 2.0 will run in) is free, and probably already installed on your computer with your internet browser.

Its Flash which costs money, the developer.

Flash is quite expensive to develop in, yes, but to use the applications developed in it is absolutely free, and probably already installed on your computer.

Yeah, just have to keep updating it now and again.

It disturbs me that my quote about the benefits of Squeak is now at the top of the thread. Just to make it clear, I do not really support using a Squeak plugin for Scratch 2.0. It's a great idea in theory, but since almost no one has the plugin it would make Scratch inaccessible to people who are, for instance, using a library or a school computer.
