The-Whiz and Spaghetticat have both had their arguments and reasons - but I personally prefer to go back to what Spaghetticat said first:

This website WAS made for kids - you have to understand that. Scratch is a programming language developed by the MIT Media Lab as a research project so younger kids don't have to just play games and view media, but also create their own games and media. You really have to understand the history of Scratch, and know the people to understand that.
Secondly, there ARE many programming sites other than scratch - you just haven't explored the internet far enough
. For example, there's newgrounds.
I respect your opinions right now as your still a newbie, but hopefully in your further Scratch experience you will understand this.

OK Let's figure this out.
2 supporters on this thread ≈25 non-supporters on this thread
-------------------------------------- = -----------------------------------------------
8 supporters total ≈100 non-supporters total
100 > 8.100 > 8 = overall win = argument won = defence wins = end of argument.
Having most people agree with one side of an argument shouldn't end it.
Thats how most of the debates I've heard of or seen have ended. They take a vote and the side with the most votes wins, this wasn't techincaly like that, but taking a look at the odds (100 to 8), its not likely to get very far.

You could try convincing the remaining 8.

I only see TWO people on this thread that want less restrictive rules! That's NOT a large group! Less restriction leads to parents not allowing smaller kids onto the site, which leads to even less restrictive rules, etc. It's a vicious circle, and it will go on until the Scratch Team just gets fed up and closes Scratch down or Scratch turns into a place where trolls are all over.
Three.
Less restriction... I don't see what could happen. We won't suddenly get a bunch of bloody projects, well the project could be intended to look like there was blood but it would just look like a solid red random squiggly mass.
I think you're exaggerating a bit, how bad could it be? Just because there are less rules doesn't mean that trolls will appear.

no. but this is getting rediculos!!!!!! i mean, 9 people wanting something unreasonable that there is no really good reason to have exept that they want it? i mean, like, you dont want 6 year olds in canada to play COD or something on a website thats educayional?
2 loopholes from preveiously were mentioned

You're forgetting that trolls already appear...
And even if there were 3 people agreeing on this thread...
3 25
---- = ---
11 92
92 is still more than 8.
And 11 because of those 8 listed people plus the 3 supporters on this thread.

But they might, and would you rather have trolls or no trolls? overly violent games or ones that all ages can play? the censor is not going to work, all it is is leverage to allow people to get innapropriate content onto the website!

All people can play violent games... Do you understand that very few will appear as not many people on scratch have the programming ability to make something look violent?

Although technically most people can play violent games, it doesn't mean it's a good idea. It's a bad influence - don't you see? Especially for younger children - scratch.mit.edu shouldn't be the first website where a kid sees bloody violent games.

Ok then...?
Limited rules wouldn't do much good either... there would still be innapropriate stuff?
And yes, I do think a bunch of jerks and complete demons are on Scratch because its true and we can't let them get what they want: The ability to post innapropriate stuff, no matter how limited.I cant belive this.....would you people just listen to me for 5 seconds?
What do you mean when you say no matter how limited.I think of limited as being able to use words like stu.pid and dum.b and not get flagged for it and being able to gie criticism without being slammed not cursing like a sailor. You can use stupid and dumb... just depends on the context! Its not censored, and most little kids use that anyway! Its just not nice to call people that in a very cruel way like an entire project attacking other users.
And whats all that about critism and slamming sailors?
what?i said cursing like sailors and when you criticize something you get slammed

-It isnt quite detailed enough"
And then people slam me!IVE HAD PEOPLE GO ON MY STUFF SAY ITS BAD AND THEN SAY "How does that make you feel?"

I think we should close this. It's turning into a flame war. Feelings might get hurt if this goes on. Also, I see people who want to post...not appropriate stuff. If that's wrong, sorry. But I keep coming up with this when I look at the arguments against the current rules. Also, this is a KID'S SITE. KEEP. THAT. IN. MIND! Spaghetticat, you are just going around in circles. You keep arguing about tiny details when we already covered that.

I just minorly called you a newbie as a shortened version as 'new user" - not something insulting like "n00b" or something. Chill.
And you slightly are a new user, as you've only been on Scratch for roughly 3 months. Although it's some basic experience, you still have long ways to go!
(you're looking at a Scratcher with 3 yrs expeirence)
