Re: A Protest against Flash Scratch

I agree.

Flash would ruin all the effort people that want to make scratch mods have put into learning squeak.

why do people think this? scratch 2.0 won't erase the files for panther, streak, etc. they'll just have to program their own blocks that are in 2.0

Re: A Protest against Flash Scratch

The point of Scratch is not to create Scratch mods, why can't some one you understand this! Flash is more widely used than squeak; would you rather make games and stuff using Flash, or mess with the Scratch Source Code using Streak? You are focused on making environments to make projects in, not actually making the projects.

What's the problem with learning Flash? You can still continue working on your Scratch mods with Scratch 1.4. People have continued using older versions of Scratch after an update has come out all the time!

In short, I STRONGLY AGREE with making Scratch in Flash.

Just because it didn't work for you doesn't make it bad. Just re-install.

Re: A Protest against Flash Scratch

Making Scratch on Flash would be good. Hopefuly they can get rid of the bugs in Scratch. I really hate the variable glitch. (export a sprite with variables and import it into another project and the variables on the screen don't change)

This. I made this point earlier about Scratch not being about maing Scratch mods, but they didn't listen - thanks for re-pointing this out.

Re: A Protest against Flash Scratch

Why is this Protests going on ??????? This is only for our betterment.FLASH WOULD MAKE SCRATCH A LOT FASTER AND EASIER TO USE.

BTW, We can also have Scratch in Both Squeak and Flash. That would ensure that niether scratch (flash/squeak) suffers.

But for this, we will have to make a method to convert Squeak-Scratch programs into Flash-Scratch programs  and vice versa.....

Final VERDICT (FROM ME)- LETS WELCOME FLASH BUT LET US NOT FORGET SQUEAK

Re: A Protest against Flash Scratch

conclusion:
the object of scratch isn't to make mods. the transition to flash won't ruin the current scratch mods. it just means they'll actually need to program ( yikes  gasp) the new features of 2.0 if they want them. the switch to flash might make it possible to save projects as swf files, which means scratch games can go on flash game sites. actionscript is programmed more than squeak, so it will be a better language to learn.
I vote for flash scratch.

I'm not so sure I agree with this. Just because the program is made in Flash doesn't mean it has the capability to make .swfs.

I said might. even if it's not a basic scratch feature, somebody could still make a program like jens' scratch2exe.

Actually, it would be a lot easier to make projects run in a desktop interface, considering that Flash can run on desktops...

Even Jens sb to exe doesn't really convert it into a exe, it just extracts the player and the project. One easy way to make .sb to .swf work is to make the flash just take the .sb from the scratch site instead of having it contain the sb file.

Re: A Protest against Flash Scratch

I say neither. That is, Scratch shouldn't be in Squeak nor Flash. Instead, I'm all for JavaScript. Let's list the advantages!
-- Easy to program in, unlike Flash
-- Free and open-source, unlike Flash
-- Works online, unlike Squeak
-- Pretty powerful
Go JavaScript!  big_smile

Javascript isn't really designed for large-scale projects like this... Think of the difficulties!

why would Jens lie to me? after all I never did for him?  tongue  well, I guess I did help spread the word that he wasn't in the scratch team anymore.

I agree with this, and I'm not sure if anyone realized this, but you wouldn't be able to right click. That would fail right away.
