It must cost an lot to run a website, pay the admins, keep the server up etc.. and still have enough to buy the things you need for yourself. The website doesn't even have adverts!
Do they get donations?
Are they all already rich?
How do they make money?

MIT is (in my humble opinion) the most prestigious science and technology school in the United States. Only the best and brightest students get admitted. You have to be a genius, basically.
