I feel that a way to halt the confusion, at least for a little bit, would be to tell them up-front why they were banned.
I think that better would be to have an uprfornt announcement about the recent problems (AKA Programmer/Art) and state the policy, and have a no tolerance for any discussion relating to the status quo of the situation.Once the people involved realise that nothing is going to happen when they petition, or complain, or make secret plots, it will die out. Those not satisfied will leave, and then the community can leave.
EDIT: Lols, this got stickied as I was posting.

If you use an IP ban for a first offense (which I know rarely happens) will you be able to access the Scratch Team, assuming the offender doesn't know their e-mail.
Well lonwol has told me some things to post.
1. His second account was not to ask to be unbanned. It was to say bye.
2. He ussually gets IP ban. Even the first time he was banned.
3. DaGamez he'll know when he gets unbanned.
Yeah, but he probably won't try going on his banned account if he thinks it's banned... right?

He promised he wouldn't ever, EVER swear again, and he's like an idol on scratch. Everyone loves lonwol... He's epic xD
Can't you give lonwol a second chance? I mean, the word he said was almost a compliment xD It's just a hello without the o. And in school they teach you about that place xD
Well, I don't believe in god or anything, so I don't really know if that's very offensive to christians who believe.
well... it's not really offensive... but it's still a bad word...aren't bannings timed?

Also, later into one of the threads it was more about No script no sprite spamming, and that was the topic I was mostly posting about. How could that "upset a lot of people"?
Hmm -- it seems like a lot of the people who are banned, even temporarily, have a difficult time understanding why we blocked them. It's almost never a "single thing" that gets said that results in the ban. It's more about tone.
Think about it this way. There's mainly 2 kinds of banning we do:
1. Spammers, trolls, etc. People who are new to the community who just want to cause fights or make mean comments just for the fun of it. We ban these all the time - we have to, or the place would get overrun.
2. Longtime, contributing, community members. We hate blocking you guys, and only do it if we have to. But if we have to, we will.
This past weekend, the tone got out of hand with all the various threads condemning artists and animators (who are, like it or not, also members of the community). As happens in many different online communities, it's really easy for things in forums to get mean quickly. Sometimes the participants in the flaming threads aren't even aware of what they are doing / saying. Nonetheless, they are responsible for their words and for their tone.
So the next time things get heated, please check yourself, and see what you can do to help people chill out a bit, or turn the conversation in a more constructive direction. If it stays ugly, just stay out of it, or click the report button.

it seems that Scratch also bans when a criticizing remark is made about Scartch or the program. Thats not really fair. The team and moderators should do a better job.
Check your tone, please!
xD

That's not true! Please criticize the Scratch website or the program all you want. Do not confuse this with attacking other members or posting inappropriate content though...

That statement is itself a very strong criticism. If it is true, why are you still not banned?

You could make a filter that doesn't allow posts that contain certain words.
Also, you Scratch guys are awesome!!
I ♥ Scratch!!

I absolutely find this discussion appropriate. Younger kids don't need to be exposed to this. What would happen if their parents or legal guardians banned them from going on this website because of the disrespectful ppl. They might be hurt but you scar another kid's life. Without the open minds of young people scratch's imagination will decrease instead of increase. Which we do not want

Please ban me. I don't want to be on this thing anymore.

I think that's going to the extremes really. I agree that without younger kids Scratch is nothing, but there are over 500,000 members and only around 100,000 users of the forums, and most of those won't leave. Plus, if a kid is made to leave Scratch by their parent or guardian, sure they'll be annoyed at first, but they're children, they'll forget about it and find something else to do...

Then don't go on. No need to get banned!
If you really don't want to go on, use parental controls and ban yourself from going on this website
