With Punbb hosting they can change and filter bad words, but not links that I've heard ofBit.ly is a URL shortening site, like TinyURL. It is used mainly in Twitter and unofficial Twitter desktop clients like TweetDeck, because of how small the link is.
Thanks! never knew that!

Heh - thanks for the thanks everyone.
And thanks for helping flag spam.
But let's keep this thread on topic, shall we?
You should consider filtering these links:
is.gd (URL Shortening, can be used for spam or hacking)
bit.ly (same as above)
youqtube.com (some idiotic site that wants you to spam on YouTube videos to go on fake YouTube.)

Doesn't the scratch team use bit.ly for links sometimes?
Tinyurl.com is another one.

Spammers won't use bit.ly nor tinyurl
That's what lightnin explained in the first post about the Search Engine Optimization.
Google Bot crawls though a forum thread and sees a bit.ly address. It will increase the bit.ly search rating >

I flagged spam anyway. But, I'll be extra active to try to keep spam off of the Scratch Forums. It wasn't like this when I first made a account, and this isn't my first account.

I found a user called [removed] and he told me to go to [removed] I think it's a spam box.
Forum Moderator - Thanks

Well, If I flag a spam comment I may get a:
"That comment was perfectly fine. Please read the Terms OfUse for more information."
in my notifications.

Wow. Now I feel guilty. I have spammed a few times but I didn't know it...

Another flavor of spam would be fake fake linking. That is when you make a link that SAYS this site, when clicking on it really brings you to that site.
Example:
http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/m44/314590
will bring you to youfail.org, instead of a scratch project.

And there is also something like this:
http://www.gооglе.com/ (Just an example)
The link above seems to lead you to Google, but it actually leads you to gооglе.com.

SPiced hAM
One of many theories... Here's what Wikipedia has to say...
Wikipedia wrote:
Introduced on July 5, 1937, the name "Spam" was chosen when the product, whose original name was far less memorable (Hormel Spiced Ham), began to lose market share. The name was chosen from multiple entries in a naming contest. A Hormel official once stated that the original meaning of the name "Spam" was "Shoulder of Pork and Ham". According to writer Marguerite Patten in Spam – The Cookbook, the name was suggested by Kenneth Daigneau, an actor and the brother of a Hormel vice president, who was given a $100 prize for creating the name. At one time, the official explanation was that the name was a portmanteau of "Spiced Ham". According to the British documentary-reality show "1940's House", when SPAM was offered by the United States to those affected by World War II in the UK, SPAM stood for Specially Processed American Meats.
So... there are many theories... I wonder how the word "spam" got associated with the internet type..? Or hitting people in the face... There are a few who go around my school, hitting people (usually me >.>) in the face, and calling it "spamming"...
It's strange, how these things are so different, and yet, are given the same name
