I just thought we should take into consideration the option of getting rid of post counts, so I came up with some pros and cons, feel fre to come up with your own. Hopefully this will help the scratch team start to recognize getting rid of the post counts or if they already recognize it, see what would be best.
Pros:
-stops scratchers from posting simply to get a higher post count
-some would argue that we could do without the people who would leave based on the first con
-forums would have less spam, be less cluttered and be used the way they were meant to be.
-less competition between scratchers, therefore less fights, less resentment towards others and more getting along (to a certain degree)
-Users with low post counts will not be seen as new, and then ignored. (by chrischb)
Cons:
-this may cause people to lose interest in the scratch forums. Giving someone something to work for causes them to be more interested in something. It works the same way psychologically that achievements on the xbox 360 work. It brings realism into play. Compare your scores with other people. play to be the best. some scratchers may lose the incentive to post at all. (if you want to know mroe about this psychology aspect you can view this video http://g4tv.com/videos/44277/DICE-2010-Design-Outside-the-Box-Presentation/ it's really interesting and on a sidenote it might help you make games that draw people in more.)
-It might end up increasing spam. You never know how many people would be upset with this, they could spam as their own sort of revenge. They would be banned but you never know how many people would do it. something to think about.
-could cause scratch forums to be compared to others and seen as worse.
Edit: something else to think about too. Should registration dates be visible

There should be post counts, because it gives Scratchers a rank, and it can drive the forums.

Interesting list...
A pro: Users with low post counts will not be seen as new, and then ignored.
Sometimes post counts are used to judge the age of a certain user.

Sure get rid of them. The people who just want to get post count up don't contribute anything of value. They pretty much just spam.

Yeah, but I don't post with the purpose of increasing my post count.

you know what else would be good, not being able to use the creator of the post's account to bump his own topic. lot's of wasted posts just for that.

[outraged]Remove it! We don't need contests about post counts, nor people joining to get the highest post count - just remove it!

I like being able to see how many posts I've made, though I don't get competitive about it. It would feel pretty unnatural, kind of like taking away smileys.
Besides, removing it won't decrease the amount of spam. At least not by much. Most of it's not by people who care about their post counts. I don't consider posting a lot "spamming" either, to me that's when people advertize or post something that has no relation to the topic whatsoever.
Just something to think about...

hmnwilson, I love your gifs. ;D
How do you make them change??
It's called a rotating signature. If you look it up, you'll find a lot of sites that offer it.

Actually, you can turn smileys into text in your profile...
I agree with you, though. ^^

I don't consider that as spam either (the type that really bugs me is commercial spam)... but what bothers me is when "yeah lol" posts appear. Fortunately, they seem to be reduced...

I kind of like post counts. I don't think they should be removed. And the main place you see posts that are useless is in the miscellaneous forum which is why it is here.

At last we know the true purpose of the Miscellaneous Forum! I have often wondered
