If you are using Vista, you have to follow this steps
If you update your PC often You must have a new feature called The DEP
(data execution Prevention) It does not allow viruses to activate in the background
and just like the Firewall it has a Allow List, you have to allow scratch (Yay i can Post again
)
1. open the Control Panel
2. go to system and maintenance
2.Click System
3. On the left part of the window you should see some options Click Advaced System Settings
4.Go to the Advanced Tab
5.Click Settings on Preferences
6.Go to The third Tab (Data Executing Prevention)
7. See down, hit add
8.Got o the Scratch Root Folder and add Scratch.exe
9,Hit Apply, then Close
Happy Sharing!!!!!
If you dont get it Please ask me to post a Youtube Video to show how.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++ UPDATE +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This method only works on some computers, I also found out this, try them
This may work or not but hey, there is nothing to loose
-Try to close all open windows
-Do not Open the web browser during the upload
-If you have an anti-virus like Norton or McAfe that have their own firewalls, add scratch to the allow list
-Sometimes if your project has to many music files or sound this error happens
try to remove all sounds then upload
-try not to upload in a guest account
-make sure your PC is not blocking scratch
I look out for other methods, until then laterz

Wow, great! Is this the cause of the "Failed: Unknown reason" error that's been cropping up from time to time?
It would be really helpful if someone could confirm this for us by
1) Getting the "Failed: Uknown reason" error.
2) Following the steps above.
3) Successfully uploading a project afterwards.
Or perhaps someone has already had that experience?

I have gotten the "unknown failure" but then I unchecked the compress checkbox in the uploading dialog.

Still, I'm not sure how that would make a difference. They are virtually the same, and I managed to find the exact same setting on the control panel that you were talking about....

I am an administrator and as far as I know Windows Vista programs work perfectly well in Windows 7. But oh well...

DEP doesn't stop viruses, they stop malware. malware =/= virus

We currently *think* this problem was intermittently caused by troubles on our server (related to the weasels). Hopefully things are running more smoothly now? If anyone continues to have this problem, please post your OS, Scratch version, and the time you got the "Failed: Unknown reason" error.
Thanks!
