A comment on programming versus art.

There has been much controversy over whether art is for Scratch. Here is a simple quote from Andres that could help clear all confusion.

He has clarified that Scratch is about programming AND art.

One quick comment: Scratch is about programming AND art.

If you're in defense of both art and programming, not just one or the other, feel free to celebrate about how right you are.

In fact, it's not even programming versus art:

If you are skeptical.... http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=27342 Scroll down a bit to find Andres' post.

But scratch was made for interactive art...
That must be what Andres meant...

Interactive means scripts.... there is no ineraction with out programming...
um...
uh... programming? Scratch is definitely for that...
Hmm...

I'm here to vouch for that, I saw the thread and that exact same post that Andrés made.

@illusionist: Oh, looks like you already found it.  wink

And, see, you can trust FMT, since he was for programming and against art.

Even if not animation but art is a bit annoying, I guess Andres is correct.  hmm

Well one thing i have to say bout programming and art....YOU ALL ARE TAKING THIS TOO SERIOUSLY  tongue  I mean this is JUST a website...its not like a rule or law...One thing i think is that for people who think this website is only for programming are jealous that they can't draw as good as people who got well known on this website because of art. And vice versa.

So..yeah...thats all i have to say  big_smile

Re: A comment on programming versus art.

Andres was probably referring to Interactive art.

Notice that in the sample projects when you download, there is not an art folder, but an interactive art folder.  smile

I wasn't taking it seriously at all. I never got into the situation until now.... just to prove everyone wrong. xD

@illusionist: I'm pretty sure Andres knew what the argument was about, and the argument was about plain art. You can ask for a clarification if you want, but until it's further clarified, I'm assuming he meant all art.

I would like to emphasize the AND part of my quote. It is not about programming vs art, it is about how to bring artists and programmers together.

So you are saying that the only programs that can have artwork in them are pieces of interactive art? Then games, math experiments, and more must also be interactive art.

OMG  roll  Arch has done it again.

Yes. Games can be considered art. Just as music is considered an ART in the real world.  lol

And if Games are art, and Games are interactive (primarily), they are indeed. Interactive Art.  lol   lol   lol

But Andres did not say art and programs, he said artISTS and programMERS.

Therefore, he wishes to bring forth a community of both artists and programmers.
