Current 1,000,000 prediction date:

October 2010

Here are the progress charts:

Nice, do you use any special software for the chart or like excel?

Neat graph! I'll check it out every few weeks to see how projects are increasing! nice job!  big_smile

Re: Number of Projects

The rate of projects uploaded is ever increasing, so your prediction may be wrong.

SO FAR it looks like we will hit 1,000,000 before...

I predict we will hit 1,000,000 before the end of 2010.

I agree. I was basing my prediction off of the data I have collected.

I don't think that data is ready to tell the future yet though.

We need to find the rate of increase to properly date 1,000,000.

Re: Number of Projects

Well it's not like 2000 people are joining Scratch every week. The number will increase more and more every week, but not like 5000 projects one week and 5750 the next.

7 point added!

I noticed a slightly higher rise this time! This proves that the frequency of uploads per week is changing!  big_smile

Re: Number of Projects

*Drumroll please*

I have calculated...

That we will reach 1,000,000 projects...

in early December 2010.

What's more, I didn't adjust it for inflation, so it will happen earlier.

I'll look at the patterns and find a more appropriate date.

My calculator showed it would take:

54.729613733905579399141630901288 weeks to do it. Just more than a year.

Notice a pattern here?

It took two years to reach 500,000 and it took 1 year to reach 1,000,000. So it'll take six months to reach 2,000,000 after we reach 1,000,000. The rate is quadrupuling. Probably I'm wrong though.

Your prediction also matches FMT's!

I think I'll add this to my sig...  wink

Re: Number of Projects

The equation of the graph for the first 7 weeks is 7820 x weeks + 550380
and it has a very strong relationship of 0.99998869 out of 1.
So by week 57.4962 there will be 1000000. So it will be between 20-24 december 2010 if the rate of change doesn't increase.

These equations proudly brought to you by my $300 doller caculator  smile

Re: Number of Projects

You won't believe this guys...

The rate is decreasing. As my list says:

604688
597465 Difference: 7223
589740 Difference: 7725
581847 Difference: 7893
573953 Difference: 7894
565960 Difference: 7993
557967 Difference: 7993

It's real. It's true. And I proved it.

The number will come down.

What two numbers are the differences between? and sorry about the identicle intervals.  tongue  I had to find some way to fill the gap...  lol

I Guess I should have varied it more...

At least two of the values are fake.  sad

Yeah that came up in my calculations but like I said the equation was 7820 x weeks + 550380 even with that in mind and thats why my prediction is in december and not before it. Once there's about 15 weeks of real data and not made up data to fill the spaces, then I could predict the equation with more accuracy but remember all predictions are incorrect unless the relationship is 1 or -1. (but a relationship of 0.9999 like I got is fine to use)

I can do it with my 100 dollar one. Have you thought of a quadratic equation might be a better fit? Probably will once we get more data.

Bow down to my o mighty powerful touch screen caculator that you can play games on and with a screen bigger than the nintendo dsi's, it's awesome.

I did think of a quadratic equation but the linear equation had a relationship of 0.9999 which is almost perfect and a quadratic equation would be something like 0.001
