Why not, when it would be Snap! instead of BYOB

This topic is mainly for bug reports of Snap! and feedback on Snap! itself.

The part that I think needs explaining is that we're continuing on the old thread the conversation(s) among the dev team that would just clutter up this new thread and scare away potential users.

EDIT:  ... but non-dev-team users are welcome to post comments, questions, requests for help, or anything Snap!-related here!

Re: Snap! (Build Your Own Blocks) 4.0

Check out the new "Zoom blocks" feature!

Its main purpose is to allow taking high-res script pics for use in posters, but you can also use it to make the blocks bigger on your screen. If you make them *very* big, your system might run low on resources.

Snap! is now available in Spanish, thanks to Victor Muratalla!

Some menu items don't translate. I think the Stage label should also translate into different languages.

For .sb files — I think the easiest way is to open it with BYOB 3, save it as a .ypr, and import that into Snap!.

For .sb2 files — as technoboy10 mentioned, Hardmath123's working on Snapin8r, which can convert projects directly from the Scratch 2.0 site. I think it's being released soon  smile

^^ He uses "soon" in a general sense—expect at least a couple of weeks until we have something reasonably usable. For now, though, I do have raw Python files hosted on gdocs, if you want them and know how to execute them properly.

Why doesn't the clone block return the clone? It doesn't feel very first classy  hmm

Re: Snap! (Build Your Own Blocks) 4.0

The current clone feature in Snap! simply mimicks Scratch 2.0's clones. I added it primarily for compatibility reasons, so you can convert Scratch 2.0 projects into Snap! ones. But I also love this clone design by the Scratch Team very much, because it's so accessible and intuitive. So, it's a first step (and it helped that it was very easy to implement), and in 4.1 we'll have "real" clones with prototypal inheritance and nesting.

Re: Snap! (Build Your Own Blocks) 4.0

Snap is very slow in Android and in Linux Firefox. (it still works but very slowly.)

It doesn't work at all on the 3DS browser even though it definitely supports canvas.

Re: Snap! (Build Your Own Blocks) 4.0

Hmm, Snap is very fast on my Android Nexus 10, using Chrome, Firefox and even Opera mobile. I'm currently working on getting the Nexus' virtual keyboard to cooperate.

Re: Snap! (Build Your Own Blocks) 4.0

I'm starting (slowly) to post Snap! tutorial videos on YouTube.  Look under bh@cs.berkeley.edu for them.  (Or search for "Snap! Tutorial" I guess.)
