An RPG 2d cloud lists and variables world where you are either a:
trader
pirate
fighter (land, navy, air, space);
and can be upgraded (once youve reached a certain level) to:
commander
controller (still working on name) of a city
crime boss
or to put it in instates:
Institute of Traders:
Trader
Trader Commander
Trader Head Commander
Institute of Pirates:
Pirate
Pirate Boss
Pirate Head Boss
Institute of Warriors:
Warrior
Commando
General
Institute of City Controllers:
City Owner
City Director
City Ultimum
etc, etc with stuff like bankers etc (so a bit like sims but futuristic and with more hard-core gameplay)
For something more simple ( )
A virtual multiplayer world, can be with fighting, entrepreneur, normal (like club penguin) etc style, where you walk around, but of course integrated into a scroller
Another idea:
The one that I suggested in techpro's forum about a world where you fight monsters with other players and buy items from a shop with virtual money you collect from completing missions/defeating bosses etc, retro style, like realm of the mad god (search it on google). ROTMG (realm of the mad god) has perm death, so when you die you lose all your equipment. Also you collect equipment from sacks of treasure, which, if another player picks it up before you can not collect that specific sack anymore (it disappears).

Wow... sounds awesome, after we finished the platformer, we will definitely do that when 2.0 comes out.

I know a really good platformer sensor. It has bounce collision and is 1s1s.
