I hope not. Fortunately there are moderators that live in other parts of the country and in other countries that could help out.
The problem here wouldn't be mods, it would be the servers themselves. I believe they are housed at MIT, and might get damaged in the storm, so they might need to use a read-only site hosted somewhere else during that time.

And I imagine transfering the server data somewhere else would take forever.

They did it during Hurricane Irene, so I can imagine it wouldn't be too bad. They probably also have routine off-site backups anyway in case anything goes wrong.

Hmm. I never knew that. Maybe they'll do that this year.

I expect we'll make it ok.
We used to be in the basement server room, but now we're up a few floors, so not much likelihood of flooding.
We don't have aux. power though, so if the lights go out, so will we for a little while. But if that happens, we'll get back up soon as we can. And we'll keep you updated on our twitter feed.

But if the power's off, where do you get internet access to update twitter?

Yep, that'd be the best bet. Although, they may go down as well for a bit - but don't panic if we don't update a lot.

Whoops, totally missed this topic! It's good to know that there's less chance of flooding.

Well, I hope everything goes fine. My brother is at Harvard right now, so I really hope the weather doesn't get too bad.

I also bet MIT has generators to run there building. Most universities and stores have generators.

But, I'm not sure if keeping the Scratch website up is a huge priority for them in terms of how to allocate emergency power.
Besides, even if they have power, they probably won't have an internet connection.

On Facebook, I just got a message saying MIT will be closed tomorrow. I hope that the servers remain running...
If anyone is interested, the emergency info is at http://emergency.mit.net/emergency/
