How about varying ones, like here.

Well I mean they aren't any over 100m really. Do we want bigger than that because our planet is 10.5 times bigger?

That seems pretty good actually, because that's how it works on earth.

Okay well I reckon animal bacteria should be about the size of an ant/woodlouse.
And we HAVE to add my blue bird as an animal!

Hmm... soil. Well. We don't have any water yet either. atm we're deciding on the basic organism on the planet.
I reckon we should start patching up our rock sphere with plant matter and water and other stuff like that. we can start with regions because our planet is so big we can't globally set the soil the same. It will have to be different in places.

Since the planet is large, it should have a larger atmosphere, also, it's cold. One creature might have a large amount body fat to insulate itself, and be large, because it's in an open area and needs protection from the pressure.

Okay so let's go on the basis of buffalo/ bear and mammoth type creatures. How far will the sun be? That will effect the amount of body fat.

Well, if the center can be THAT cold, it has to be far. Maybe around Pluto?

Umm... okay! Wiki Answers:
"The orbit of the dwarf planet Pluto is quite eccentric, meaning it's more of an oval than a circle. It actually comes "inside" the orbit of Neptune for a part of its orbit. Pluto's orbit is described this way:
•Aphelion (farthest distance) - 7,375,927,931 km 4,583,189,130 miles (49.30503287 AU)
•Perihelion (closest distance) - 4,436,824,613 km 2,756,915,000 miles (29.65834067 AU)

Note the broad differences in the two figures.

The average distance is about 5,906,376,272 km or 3,670,052,070 miles (39.48168677 AU).

Light from the sun takes 328 minutes to reach Pluto, so Pluto is also 328 light minutes from the sun (on average)."

Re: A world born from the imagination of Scratch

Hey, for grass do you think instead we should have some sort of crystal like material?
This means if we want the 'grass' to grow like grass the soil has to be supersaturated with the crystal but very weakly so it doesn't grow too big! Also they grow best in porous materials so having quite hard soil would be best. Crystals also grow best in warm conditions so actually it doesn't really matter about the soil because the place is already pretty cold!

Oh! Protists! Well, those are single celled, so I doubt they would be THAT big.(Although chicken eggs are.) And I don't know if we should include those.

Well the cells would have to be big then. That also means we can have earth stuctured creatures that are 10x the size! Bingo!

I'll go with Hotwire's idea of crystal grass and implement it in other plants.

Re: A world born from the imagination of Scratch

Perhaps the crystals could be made of glucose (or some sugar equivalent) as a form of energy storage?

This sounds neat.  big_smile

EDIT: And light focusing for more efficient photosynthesis! There's not much light that far out, unless the sun is very bright.

Re: A world born from the imagination of Scratch

So far there aren't any plants yet (crystal grass isn't really a living thing), so I have an idea for a common, tree-like one:
It can grow from 10-20 feet tall, with smooth, dark brow bark that blends in with the soil.
The leaves are broad and absorb the humidity from the air instead of taking water with it's roots.
The leaves are light green and as thin as paper, and come out from green stems from the side of the tree; the only part covered in bark is a free-standing pole at the center of the plant, basically the middle of the plant.
It has bright fruits that are shaped like spheres, 3 inches in diameter that change color depending on the seasons: summer-green/blue, fall-red, spring-pink, and it does not bear fruit in the winter. It's seeds are found in the fruit and they look similar to that of an apple seed.

It is a plant. Its DNA just tells it to create crystals.

I like the humidity sucking idea. It can help it survive, since there is a thicker atmosphere. I suggest making it bigger, to protect itself from the air pressure.

There are tiny creatures that grow to two-feet high and ride on the back of giants. Their diet consists of mostly dirt, but rocks during festivities as well.

They don't need to be big because of air pressure. As long as the pressure is equal, it's fine. That's how it works on earth.
