In a roundabout way, it is about religion. Sort of. Your beliefs will affect the way you answer this question. Besides, I'm not trying to start a religious conversation here, people keep arguing me about points. As I said in an earlier post, the more you try and disprove me, the more evidence I'll bring to the table till you either walk away and give up, or I discover fallacy in my logic (which rarely happens, regardless of if there is a fallacy or not). I will defend myself to the end, that's one of the complex pieces of my personality. I'm also not trying to offend anyone, and I never would, but offense is all in the eyes of the interpreter. This conversation will stop when, and only when, you guys stop, or I decide it's turned into a flame war and stop it myself. It's really your decision.

He said Please stop the conversation.

This doesn't look like stopping but okay.

He wasn't really the guy I was talking to when I said that, I was talking more to soupoftomato and jukyter when I said that, as they were who I was talking to originally.

Please stop. This is against Scratch Guidelines and I don't know how you managed to bring religion into this, as it's really biased of you to think that only Christians cannot get affected by violent materiel. I'd imagine Christians can. I'm going to stop here because I, for one, do not want to continue this debate here so this topic can get closed-to be honest it seems like this could get interesting.
And yes, I haven't been here for a while, so how was I attacking you? :I

Re: Do you think media affect the way kids act?

why am I always the misunderstood one... There were things said previously, that I was answering, when 777w started talking to me. I said that Christians are more likely to be affected, not unaffected, by violent materials, I was not defending Christianity, but my Christian Worldview, I said I didn't get affected by stuff as much because of my personality type, not my beliefs. You guys really did zone out during that whole thing didn't you? Anyway, the argument part was more with soupoftomato about my worldview, so you're fine.

It's more probable that a christian would be offended yes.

no, your religion does not matter in this case, its your personality. christians, like any other group of people, are all very diverse, and different people have different opinions about different things.

Re: Do you think media affect the way kids act?

Some, actually most, of the violence depicted in these movies, and everything else that the movie was rated for, is something we don't believe in watching, that's why it's more probable. If we're talking about regular violence, no other stuff included, then personality is more important.

I don't know if Doom really caused Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold to go on a mass murder rampage, but it may have. Plus, they were already psychos and had their own inner demons from the beginning.

Doom didn't 'cause' it, but they were immersed into that violent world so much that their psychoticness (that was already there) made them want to recreate those events.
So, in a sense, its the video game and the person are to blame (in that particular scenario anyways). They were mentally ill in the first place, but that was more of a depression and probably a passive-aggressiveness, but no killing involved yet. They probably played violent games to get away from everything (it is reported they have been bullied in the past) and seeing all that violence pushed them to do the crime. They'd need help no matter what, but in this case, I think it was the media that turned 'that depressed kid' into a killer. Just my opinion.

Yeah, that's true. Actually, in one of Harris's journals, he said the massacre was going to be "like [removed] Doom" (in those exact words). Also, they weren't mentally ill--also, they weren't bullied that much either. They weren't the most popular kids, but they weren't ridiculed all the time. It's just that both Harris and Klebold had their own inner demons, and their own hatred and opinions against the world and against certain people, which took them over and led to the massacre, and eventually their deaths.

April 1999? That's 2 years before I was born  sad

That's horrible and the reason I don't play violent video games.

But, uh, we have to focus on anything where you kill other people. Not just war games. Heck, ones that are considered "non-violent" because they lack blood maybe worse because they leave out the fact that it causes bleeding and there is a negative effect.

That's possible, hadn't thought of that. The good outweighs the bad, and besides, our standards and culture in general needs to be rewritten anyway, why not start with our media?

Nah, I'd say movies currently have the highest quality out of media sections right now.
Games second highest.
Then art.
Then pop music.

VERY RARELY, this can be a good thing [media affecting kids] Did anyone hear about that story a few months ago about that Norwegian kid who saved his little sister's life by using a move from World of Warcraft?

Actually, there are plenty of good Goombas and Koopas. Bowser has brainwashed the one you see in the game because they've been placed to block Mario's path.

So you don't play violent video games because some dumb kids' parents used them to hide that they are terrible parents?

If you play video games at all, you need to play Doom. Doom's revolutionary, the father of the first-person shooter. It's a true classic and changed the face of the video game industry (although I personally prefer another Romero and Carmak series, Quake). Don't exclude an essential game from your experience just because it's violent. Would you do that for movies? Music? Books too? I'm currently reading The Outsiders, which has tons of mentions of violence. But it's a great book that makes an excellent read. And that's what matters. Same with anything else.
