Health Bars and Character Death

Hello all,
I've managed to have a jumping character, he can reach a key that makes a door appear. All fine so far.
But I'm now experimenting with health - I've got areas in the level where the character loses health if he touches it (kind of), I'd like the health level to be represented by a bar...any ideas?
Also - what can happen when his health bar reaches zero? any ideas?

Re: Health Bars and Character Death

For the health bar, the best option is to use a sprite:

If the character was on full health at 10, then you could have 10 costumes, each representing a number on the health. For example, 9 health would be costume 9, 8 health would be costume 8 etc.

For the character death, you could make a black screen fade into view covering the stage which says Game Over.
