Have you ever bought a book and tried to learn from it?
Not a book, no, but I've looked up a kajillion tutorials on YouTube for Stencyl, but I'm getting nowhere.
Yeah, Stencyl is the opposite of intuitive, though admittedly all I did with it was poke around for an hour without bothering to read even the given tutorial.

You have to get a book. They are the only way to learn a programming language.

Search for Javascript thereYes but scripting languages are programming languages too. They're just usualy interpreted live instead of compiled into bytecode then ran directly on hardware.
That does not make them less useful. It makes them slower usually, but more flexible for some uses.
And the line between scripting and compiled languages can be very fuzzy or non existent:
- PHP can now be compiled into bytecode and ran directly on hardware now, (like C etc...) Facebook made HipHop to do this to make their web servers much faster.
- V8, Goggle's Javascript interpreter(in Chrome and node.js) compiles parts of Javascript programs, and can be as fast as compiled languages for some tasks.
And Scratch is a scripting language too...
Javascript is used for much more than just client-side websites now.
node.js runs javascript as a server, (sort of like ruby, python, or php...)
It can also be used to make desktop apps like this. ...and much more.
Yeah!

Nope. I've figured out how to use Processing from just looking around in the Reference on their website. I actually find books more confusing to use to learn how to do programming, and everyone learns differently.

Soon enough, javascript will take over.

Yeah, it will. I acknowledge that. But it definitely hasn't yet, so Flash is definitely not dead.

Not that amazing.
It is better than JQuery, at least. And ASP.

Ok whatever, it's not dead...
But it's not a really good language to learn because it IS dying.

No way.
OK, look, sorry.
I just like PHP because of its remarkably clear syntax and its ease of learning.
With the exception of regular expressions. >:!

True. Thought it might be a good language to learn in spare time because it's still useful now in this age of IE.

Uh.. no? You can create complete user interfaces with it and it's Turing complete.
So you're saying that you can make a .exe or .app or .whatever with it that opens in something other than a web browser?

I still like Flash. HTML/JS isn't good for game programming, and Flash can very easily make rich web content.

Ehh. HTML is pretty easy, especially because it can be integrated so easily into the page. And if you know how, it is pretty good for game programming.

People learn in different ways. You might learn better reading things, but I learn better if I actually see it happening.
