[I need computer help and you need patience (to read this)]
So after sending mental hate mail to my computer, I really need some advice from those who aren't as technologically challenged as I am
All of the below may or may not be relevant but I don't know what matters and what doesn't, so I'll just include everything
Here it is, more or less chronologically;
We had a really old computer, so we bought a new one, and a new keyboard and a new mouse, circa a month or two ago, but we kept the old monitor (which flickers yellowish randomly, but I dunno, it's just old)
I had been using my camera to upload pics to that computer occasionally with a USB thing, and I always selected 'safely remove hardware' before disconnecting it, but sometimes it just said 'yes, you can remove it' and still had it shown that I needed to or something. I have no idea if this matters.
About a week ago my mom was using the Internet when she called me in because it wasn't working
She denies any connection with the problem but, you know...
Anyway
It had an error message, something about USB, and then the keyboard and mouse stopped responding--we move the mouse, tap random keys, nothing
So I restarted the computer and it went to the Login screen
But the mouse and keyboard were still completely unresponsive
The little red light is still on the mouse, but I don't think it's on the keyboard
My dad says he'll try and connect it with a different keyboard
Will this work or is there something else we should be doing? (Because I'm really getting sick of this netbook, it's too abstract a concept for it to open 2 Internet tabs when one is Gmail)

Maybe the mouse and keyboard became unplugged? Check that the wire things are in properly

Eh....
I'll know when (or if) the other keyboard works.

Did you check the internet history?

Happened to me before. I think I unplugged my comp., unpluged keyboards and mouse, plugged comp back in, plug kb/m back in.

Let it sit for a day or so, wipe it, or try a different mouse and keyboard.

Okay. Though only the keyboard should be necessary

Do you have speech recognition?

Try a different USB port.
or a joystick.

Your mom must've deleted System32.
JK, but maybe.
I swear the USB drive is responsible.

Have you tried turning it off and on again

I have gotten that error message, it says that "a plugged in USB device has malfunctioned". That normally means that either the device is fried, or the USB controller (on the motherboard) is. If unplugging and replugging the keyboard and mouse in doesn't work, either, try a different USB port. If that doesn't work, buy a PS/2 keyboard and mouse (assuming the mobo has ports for it).

1) Try replugging the mouse/kb in while the comp is off.
2) try a diff kb/mouse
3) replace the usb ports

When you take the usb out is it really hot? Because if it is you need a new one. Red light on mouse usually means batteries low.
Nah, the light's always red
Also, the USB isn't hot
