SSD is a huge plus. I'd go with the SSD and hat a external HDD.

My dad's first computer had a 16kb hard drive, and he managed along fine (but that was back in the day when storage space was actually savoured!)
Realistically, unless you're downloading hundreds of full-length movies, 128GB should do the trick; even if you are, there's no reason to have more than 256GB, as, for a netbook, 640 is rather insane. Personally, I've never had a computer with more than a 160GB drive.
