What language do you think is the next step?

What language is one step up from scratch? I think it's python, as it is very easy.

Re: What language do you think is the next step?

I don't consider Scratch a programming language.

I mean, it's not really a language, so much as images.

Well, I meant programming language in a different sense. It is more of an intro to programming.

I also think that Python is the best language to move on to after Scratch.

You can't do much with python though  hmm

This is a temporary signature. It will exist until I think of something witty.

I strongly disagree.  Disney uses Python for one of its ride simulations.  EVE Online is written in Python.  There are several other things.

Japanese!

Oh, programming language?

Okay then. JS or PHP aren't really programming languages, but they get you to learn to care about syntax.

Python would be nice.

SHUN. Python = boss

Ask me what I'm doing, wait an hour than roll a die, if it's 4-6, I'm playing Skyrim, if it's 1, I'm eating, if it's 2-3 I'm programming.

Processing. Nice, Java-based, and educational, with quick visual gratification.

Yeah, maybe. But it's just like a little step up from Scratch.

HTML 5 is just HTML with a few added tags.  If there is any chance that you will ever try to write programs and not websites, go with Python or (less recommended) Ruby.

Yes, however you can still make online games with HTML5.

Re: What language do you think is the next step?

I jumped from Scratch to C++. For me, C++ was my next step.

I think the next step really depends on the user and how they want to use their programming skills. I've seen some some jump into something like Python and C++ if they just want to learn a programming language for various usage. Other times I see some jump into Stencyl or GameMaker if the aim is game design only.
