Exactly. You won't be able to see blocked websites from overseas in America, but the US can't delete websites outside its jurisdiction.  They can only require that they be blocked.

If they aren't, then the Scratch Team won't be able to view Scratch but users outside the US will.

No, we wouldn't be able to view the sites but anyone from anywhere else can, its like my internet safety thing, it blocks sites, but ONLY FOR MY COMPUTER.

If you are reading this, please read to the end, because if you don't you won't know what's at the end. Don't just skip to the end though otherwise you won't be able to read the middle, which is most important. Now you must be wondering why you just read all that, the reason is you may have not noticed something, read it again and see if you notice it this time  smile

Hang on, just read this: "would allow the government to force Internet service providers to deny service to web sites that host pirated material -- even if those sites were hosted overseas".

So the US government can do stuff like that to places out of the US?

The sites are only blocked FOR the US.
In canada you could still use scratch if it was blocked in the us.

Also btw, it says "pirated material" scratch doesn't pirate.

Sooooooo...

Scratch doesn't pirate, but it's users might post some pirated song. Or may e some random link on the forums has to do with pirated software/warez. (I am sure nobody would do that, but a spammer might)

Pirating is basically a form of copyright infringement, so wouldn't be infringement=pirating?

Re: Are YOU Against the internet censorship bill?

Could I add my two cents here?
I am neutral as of now.  This is because I can see both sides' reasons.  The supporters don't want their copyrights completely ignored.  Those against it want to keep free speech.  Both are justified reasons.
Now, for my suggestion:  If this were to pass Congress, before it reaches the president, which it has a good chance of doing, the Scratch website should take immediate action - removing all the projects with possible copyrighted material.  This way we as a community can survive.  If it is vetoed, we could then restore all the projects (I know about the Dustbin  smile  ).  This is my suggestion.  You may not all like it, but I will always stand by it.

No, because the ST are all based in America. But they could get on an offline version because they'd have access to the servers?

No, it means that those websites can be sued if they host copyrighted material.  If the bill doesn't pass, all the webiste has to do is remove that piece of material if its copyright holder requests that it be taken down.  With this bill, both the user who submitted the material and the website that hosted it can be sued.

In the technology world of today, I might argue that is does play an important role of our lives.

A lot of information is shared online right now, things like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are now used to share information around the world. If this bill passes, it has the ability to prevent people living in the U.S. to access this information as well as prevent people outside the U.S. from sharing it. Why silence so many innocent people because of a few copyrighted material that could simply just vanish with a report and few clicks from the website admins?
