You may have noticed that some users have the status of "Community Moderator".
This is a guide for those who know little or nothing about them.
Table of Contents
1. Current/Past Moderators
2. The First Moderators
3. Requirements of Past/Present
4. What Mods Do
5. TBG Moderators
(If I should add a new chapter, please suggest it)
ANNOUCEMENTS:
The winner of the TBG Moderator Election is cpumaster930! You can congratulate him on one of his projects.
1. Current/Past Community Moderators
There are many users that have the Commuity Moderator status. They are:
-coolstuff
-demosthenes
-Harakou
-MyRedNeptune
-JSO
Past Moderators:
-Dazachi
-illusionist
-Lanie
-kevin_karplus
-Jens
-fullmoon
-Wolfie1996
2. The first Moderators
The first Moderators to get elected were coolstuff, Wolfie1996, Dazachi, and illusionist. Dazachi and illusionist were forced to be "retired" during the next term due to changing requirements.
3. Requirements to Run for Election
The requirements for the first election were:
-Must have been active on Scratch for at least 6 months.
-Is willing to commit based on the Community Guidelines and Community Moderator Guidelines.
-Has a history of positive interactions on the site.
The next election added 2 more requirements:
-Has parent permission (unless they are an adult)
-Is age 14 or over.
The age limit caused lots of arguing. It was incorporated due to the Scratch Team being uncomfortable with younger users being exposed to less appropriate things.
I even dislike this rule, but it's for the better.
The third election changed the age limit to 13 to allow a higher amount of candidates.
4. What Mods do
What exactly do Moderators do?
-Whenever you press the Report or Flag button, a message is sent to all of the Moderators.
The Moderators can:
-Close/open topics,
-Sticky/Unsticky topics,
-Rename topics,
-Move topics,
-Remove projects/comments,
-Delete posts, and
-Ban users. (Only in cases of comercial spamming or obvious trolling)
Seems like a lot of responsibility!
5. TBG Moderators
There is a seperate forum for Text-Based Games. The Scratch Team saw a need for seperate Moderators. They made an election similar to the Community Moderator elections.
Current TBG Moderators
-Chrischb
-Vista4563
-Survivorduck
-Bulbo-Grubb
-cpumaster930
Past Moderators
-The-Whiz
-nikkiperson2
The TBG Moderators have similar abilities to the Community Moderators.
Notes on TBG Moderators:
-The-Whiz and nikkiperson2 won the First Election
-Chrischb and Vista4563 won the Second Election
-Survivorduck and Bulbo-Grubb won the Third Election
-cpumaster930 won the Fourth Election
-The next TBG Moderator Election won't happen for a while, as the last one just ended.
-Same Requirements (don't nessesarily need to be on TBG forums for 6 months)
-The-Whiz and nikkiperson2 don't have a Retired TBG Moderator status. Their status is TBGer.
Final Notes:
-Next Moderator election is probably in March 2012
-Every four months, Moderators can continue their work, resign, or run for election again.
-You can run for Moderator as much as you like.
-coolstuff, Wolfie1996, Dazachi, and illusionist won the first election, demosthenes and fullmoon won the second election, and Harakou won the third election.
-Cheddargirl and Paddle2See are on the Scratch Team, but still Moderate.
-kevin_karplus, Lanie, and Jens don't have the Retired Community Moderator status. Their status is Scratcher.
-MyRedNeptune and JSO were picked instead of elected.
Anything I forgot? Post any missing information!

Good guide!
I don't know if there'll be another election this month; it seems a bit soon.

@scimonster The Scratch Team said if there was an election this term, it would start at the end of November. The Scratch Team isn't 100% sure there will be an election. There might be an election if one of the Moderators resigned.

Excellent job! This helps clear some things up. A few notes:
- Mods can't ban users (well, we can, but we're only supposed to in cases of spam or obvious trolling)
- It says that Dazachi and Illusionist were automatically retired, but that makes it sound like it happened immediately.
- Coolstuff, Wolfie1996, Dazachi, and Illusionist won the first election. You didn't mention the latter.

The age limit caused lots of arguing. It was incorporated due to maturity reasons.
You'll want to fix that since it's incorrect. It was never due to maturity (young users can demonstrate maturity), but rather the fact that the Scratch Team was uncomfortable with younger users trying to deal some of the tasks that moderators face (much like how parents can be uncomfortable with their child being exposed to certain things regardless of the maturity the child might show).

-Cheddargirl and Paddle2See are on the Scratch Team, but still Moderate.
I think Chaddargirl isn't actually on the ST only her status says so, really the ST promoted her from mod to ST so she could help with admin controls or something... she told someone that recently but I cant remember it fully. Cheddar?

That's right, they upgraded her so that she can help on the main site as well as the forums

Yes, I was granted admin functions so I could help out with moderation on the main site. When I was granted admin functions, my status changed from Community Moderator to Scratch Team. For the most part, the Scratch Team title signals being part of the Scratch Team, with my main duties as a Scratch Team member being website moderation.
The duties of Scratch Team members varies from member to member. Some help develop the Scratch program, others work on site functions, some observe community as it grows, and some moderate (and yes, there are other Scratch Team members who help moderate besides me and Paddle ).

Well, community moderators could remove bad comments on forum threads.

Yikes! That's a lot of replies in a short time! I don't think I need to add a note about Cheddargirl and Paddle2See being Super-Moderators. Although the sentence Cheddargirl corrected meant what she said in her post, I should make that more clear.
This might sound weird, but there's no need to +1 posts or say "You're Right!" of there is only one page in the thread. It actually annoys me a bit.

What are the requirements for the TBG mods?

Hey just wondering, do community moderators have the 60 second rule as well?
