Building an RC boat... Help!

Does anyone have any experience with building RC models? I'm converting a model to a fully functional boat with propellor but I'm confused in the world of servos, transmitters, receivers, throttle control, proportional systems, 75Mhz, 2.4Ghz, brushless and radios.

Any help please?

I'm taking it to a local RC hobby shop this wednesday.

EDIT: Is it a good idea to solder the drive shaft with the motor?

Do NOT solder the drive shaft with the motor. Instead run a band of some sort into the propeller. I suggest putting the motors at the back of the boat, with counterweight at the front. I've built a few so..

Well, the reason being that if you wish to change anything later on, due to functionality, it won't be easy.

Nice, I have a rather nice soldering iron... It's also fun to put on lots of rubber bands. It's just fun to watch.

I suspect that the motor shaft is probably steel, which does not solder well.  Also, the heat of the soldering attempt could damage the motor.  I'd try a rubber tubing coupling or something along those lines.  Good luck, sounds like fun  smile

Sorry, I'll upload some pictures (not screenshots) of the boat when I get the time... this is like a little holiday project for me...

Instructables had some good tips about soldering.

@Paddle2See: Sounds like a good idea... I'll see what the shop has. And we're going to the shop next wednesday.

I'm thinking of soldering because I want a direct drive and no gears that would reduce the power by means of friction  smile
