LOL, I found the answer when I was 10, with Game Maker. It's not that easy so the kids oftenly get frustated. 
But Scratch is really easy, so you don't have to care about that.

Jens: Nice. Evelyn had a cool quote from "why"_the_lucky_stiff" at the Art and Code conference along the lines of: "Programming is a card game, just add drawings."

I'm a sucker for quotes like that. Kudos to Eveyln for this one!
It's almost as descriptive as Alan Kay's famous "Doing with images makes symbols"

yes, scratch is sort of like cryons, then once thy get involved in the scratch community, they can get exposed to web development an the such...
there is one problem, there are to many...inapropriate project out there...
