Soooo... what is this think people call... OOP?

I know the basics, its something to do with objects. BYOB's OOP is that it can have pictures of sprites, pictures of scratch objects.

I don't want a definition, just a short exclamation.

If you are reading this, please read to the end, because if you don't you won't know what's at the end. Don't just skip to the end though otherwise you won't be able to read the middle, which is most important. Now you must be wondering why you just read all that, the reason is you may have not noticed something, read it again and see if you notice it this time  smile

Pictures?
Maybe you should take a look at BYOB's 3.1 Reference Manual.

I don't understand what you're talking about? What does my level of expertise with Squeak or Scratch have to do with BYOB's OOP?

Re: Soooo... what is this think people call... OOP?

in objrct oriented programing, an object is something that has methods and data. In OOPs, you can send a message to another object to make it do one of its methods return some of its data Also, an object can inheret properties from another object. In scratch, sprites are objects because they have methods (scripts) and data (variables), but scratch is not object oriented because you cannot pass messages to indivisual sprites, you can only broadcast them, and broadcasts will not take inputs or return values, and also a sprite cannot inheret properties from another sprite. BYOB is object oriented though, chech the BYOB manuel. Also, if you know about a programing language called "game maker", that is object oriented.

Re: Soooo... what is this think people call... OOP?

Alrighty tighty lefty loosey, now I get it. Thanks for all the help!

Yes, I have GM8 (I think that's the number.)

But wait...
Oh I see...
So OOP is only when a sprite/object can in a since control another sprite?
Or only when a method is passed and turned into data for the other object?
OK... maybe I don't quite get it. XD

All you really need is the Company.  You're sort of reminded when you need to know them.
