No I think the reason so many people do it is to try to get people to remix theirs for a cheap way onto the front page.

Yes some people. I would like it if the Top Remixed started as a great project or animation and then people could add on to it. Maybe change the story a smidge and add some stuff to make the game longer. I think this is what the Top Remixed was originally for. But now, I think people have taken advantage of it and just throw together things that are just like "Add your name and remix" A few of them are accepted from me if you can tell work was put into it. Like the one about running away from the boulder. Scrolling had to be put in, and that was pretty cool. Otherwise, I really think people are taking advantage of the system. Those are my opinions

No matter what goals they do it for, the people remixing it still have fun. So I guess it's not completely useless. The kids get to feel themselves as part of a community.

they just want to get on the front page.

yep pretty much, probably the easiest way to get front page too. i've never got top remixed and will never get it in the future, pretty much i just ignore it cause all thats always there is like remix and add ur username.

I have an idea for the front page:
Instead of a single line of 3 for newest projects... How about:
A line of 3 newest animation/art/story projects
A line of 3 newest game projects
A line of 3 newest music/remix projects
A line of 3 newest other/misc projects
(A project would only be entered in one of the above catagories based on selected tags)
Keep line of the 3 latest featured projects, viewed, downloaded, and random projects and drop the other lines.
This would give about the same number of projects on the front page and increases the visibility of new projects.
Thoughts?

THe only problem is it would be immpossible for scratch to tell wat projects are quick enough and you can't trust users because there always ones that screw things up on purpose and if u wanted moderators to make sure project go in the rite tag you would need a BUNCH more mods.

bosox397, I honestly don't think that mistagging would be that big of a problem. Besides, 3 more submissions and it would be off the front page anyway.
If you think about it, the only thing my suggestion would do is basically slow down the speed at which new projects are scrolled off the front page (since that is a main concern of scratchers at the moment).

IDK, because people WILL start realizing which sub-category stays on the longest and then tag their project with that tag. Anyway, this is really off-topic.
Once again, Top Remixed in my opinnion is kinda pointless. Although, if it didn't interfere with the Top viewed, Top downloaded, or Top Loved then it would be ok. But since you can't guarantee that, I don't really like it.

But someone could choose all the tags and be on all of those

bosox397, in that case, the system would be self correcting! Think about it... if people try to "game" the system by picking the slower moving category... the catagory speeds up which defeats the strategy.
___
BWOG, perhaps you didn't process what I posted (and you quoted)...
"(A project would only be entered in one of the above categories based on selected tags)"
The system would have to give priority to certain tags.

Ok sorry to burst your bubble, but based on what scratch is built upon it would never work. You are imagining things that are pratically immpossible.

You can already see the latest projects tagged as "Animation", "game", etc
For example here are the latest projects tagged as "simulation":

scratch was invented to teach people the basics of programming. projects without scripts defeat the purpose of scratch. pictures, (including art), and projects ment to remix and draw a picture and add your name defeat the purpose of scratch.

I understand... I really can't stand those projects. I'm sick of seeing, invariably:
ADD YOURSELF TO whatever takes five seconds to slam off.

At first remixing was good, because people would add on to others peoples already GOOD projects. But then someone found a loophole, and now its terrible
