What do you exactly mean by "couldn't open the project"?
Maybe you're using an older version of Scratch? I dunno

Are you sure you have Scratch installed? File associations may not be properly set up. Right click the project file choose properties or get info. Then find the place where you choose which program to open it with. Choose Scratch 1.4.
How are you trying to open it?
What operating system are you on? (Windows, Mac, Linux, Solaris etc. etc.)
Here are some tips... try opening it by double clicking in Finder, Windows Explorer or the equivalent for your OS, and also try by choosing open from the Scratch application itself.
I hope that helps!

What version of Scratch are you using, and what was the version of the project you were downloading?

Sorry I wasn't too clear last night; I didn't even know where to post. Anyway, I installed Scratch just fine. It opened up, though Windows warned me about it. Norton said it was safe. It's when I downloaded someone's project that I'm having trouble with. I did find it in my Downloads file, but it woulsn't oen and/or move to Scratch. It was the Nyan cat make your own project. I have Windows XP, if that helps you to know.

File associations with Scratch can be finicky. Instead of trying to open the project from the location in which you saved it, open up Scratch, go to File > Open, browse to where you saved your project, and open it from there. That should do the trick.

Just wanted to let you know I opened the project(s) in Scratch and they work just fine. I had been trying to open it in the wrong spot- DUH! Thanks for your help. I'll be asking more questions, for sure.
