I'm not much in the fields of ipods but... maybe it's bricked? I'd recommend getting a certified Apple technician to check it out... or your big brother if you have one

i have a IPod nano 5th gen and mine just shuts itself down all the time
i hate it when it does that. Anyway either do what nathanprocks says or plug it into the computer and that should help.

Yes, press the top botton and the menu button at the same time, it worked with mum's iphone so I see no reason it shouldn't with your ipod touch

this is an ipod nano not an iphone... they have different buttons... and i thought pressing the the top button and the menu button on ios takes a screen shot

You'll get the best support if you post the question on PodTricks.
Anyways, just hold the Menu + Center buttons to force reset it or let it die and recharge.

Sorry, I didn't see this topic for a while. Thanks, WNT, I'll try it when I get home. Does that wipe all my music off?
No. It doesn't cause any data harm at all. It's just like letting your battery die and then putting it on a charger: it makes the iPod reload iFirmware (what I call the firmware for click-wheel iPods) again and usually kicks it out of the WSOD.
