Re: Write A Novel in... *heart attack* 17 days!?

A Wrinkle in Time FTW  big_smile
Does it sound like the shadow though?  hmm  vv

“I wish you’d stop talking. We’re doomed and it’s your fault, so just shut your mouth for once in your life and...”

Fynn grabbed Max’s head and turned it sharply towards the window. “...and look?” he suggested.

Simone and Max’s mouths fell open as they stared out the window, remembering why all of this trouble had been caused in the first place. “Wow,” Owen breathed, and the others nodded fervently. There was their own gleaming-glass GC-USA, their space colony, in an impressive light that they’d never been able to admire from the view in the passengers’ seats three years ago. Colors reflected and mirrored off of it; from the inside it was brightly lit and busy, like a large iridescent bubble with an entire universe inside. In spun steadily in space like a mobile hanging from the black ceiling.

        “It’s amazing,” Max said.

Fynn even managed not to say, “I told you so.” That may not have had to do with personal constraint, however, but with what had distracted him. “What is that?” he said loudly, pointing.
The others followed his finger with their eyes and understood immediately. A large, shadowy something stood out against the backdrop, somehow darker and more terrifying than the rest of the black void surrounding them. It looked by no means flat; it was circular and in constant movement. It reminded Simone of a tidal pool in the vast ocean of darkness.

“A black hole!” Owen said, voicing the first thought of them all, but the others scoffed.

“There’s no way. How could a black hole be so close without destroying everything?” Max said.

“Yeah,” Fynn said, relieved to be agreeing with his brother for the first time on the whole trip. “Plus, some one would notice. Black holes don’t just appear.”

“And,” Simone said, “we’d be getting sucked toward it if it were a black hole....” No sooner than she had said it did they realize a sort of pulling sensation between the pod and the Thing. It was hard to place, but there.

“Coincidence,” Fynn said. “We’ve always been going in that general direction.”

        “Have we?”

        “Yes.”

        “I don’t remember now.”

“I wasn’t paying attention,” Simone explained, “before I said that. None of us were. It’s just when you say something you start to notice it.”

        No one answered.

“Like when the interface says that it’s cold,” she prompted, “and to turn up the heat. And you tell it, shut up, like always... but then you think, maybe it is cold, and then that’s all you can think about.”

“That must be it,” Max replied.

They all stared into the seemingly endless depths of the Thing. Wondering.

Edit: cool it's post 2222!  yikes

Just curious, but what program are you writing in and what are you listening to as you're writing?

lolz
I use gedit for writing, because it's clean and uncluttered like Notepad but has an easily accessible word count tool.  big_smile
I've been listening to a bunch of nineties stuff, like grunge, alternative, indie, lo-fi, etc. (Guided by Voices, Nirvana, Pavement, Eels)

Re: Write A Novel in... *heart attack* 17 days!?

I have 3458 words now.
Here is some.

"I'll start." We crouched down, and she pulled out her shooter. It was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever seen. It was essentially clear, with dark silver swirls inside, but on the inside was a smaller white marble, with names written all over it in black ink. I didn't know who the names belonged to, but I know that those people must be pretty amazing to have their name on her marble. She shot and as it spun, I saw more names, as well as white space that had not yet been marked by her minuscule handwriting. It spun around in a sort of spiral, knocking marble after marble out of the ring. Fifteen out of thirty two marbles were now hers, and the battlefield now seemed sparse in comparison to before.
I shot with my blue and green elephant’s egg, but my results were not nearly as impressive. One, two, three, four, five marbles spun out of the ring. Twelve to go. Naturally, on her next shot, she removed all of the remaining marbles. We separated and gathered up our marbles, laughing.

I just love the community on NaNoWriMo. There are about countless Harry Potter and Doctor Who topics.
Where the heck are all of these people in real life?! Everyone at my school is all like 'yaytwilightomgedwardissooohot' and 'whattheheckisdoctorwhomoron'.

I tried one year... my writing teacher suggested it... but my story got longer... and so did the time between writing it... its like 10000 word or something... but I haven't written it in like 5 months. XD

I do like the idea of getting a free book written by me!

If you are reading this, please read to the end, because if you don't you won't know what's at the end. Don't just skip to the end though otherwise you won't be able to read the middle, which is most important. Now you must be wondering why you just read all that, the reason is you may have not noticed something, read it again and see if you notice it this time  smile
