Again, what if you had a FPS where you could model and rig your own character for use in multiplayer?
Tentative name is MOFPSWUGCC (Multiplayer-Only First Person Shooter With User Generated Custom Content).
NEW PLAN:
The game would cost about 1 or 2 US dollars. it would only be available as digital download. It would probably run under Source, possibly UDK. When attempting to join a server for the first time, the player has to wait for the current round to end. When this happens, he/she is thrust into a waiting room while player model data is sent to the user, and his model is sent to users in the room, as well as to the hard drive of the server. During the waiting room process he can chat with users already playing. When he joins, all content is loaded.
However, a option in settings server-side would enable you to bypass the waiting room, but have all custom content be replaced by place holder models. As downloads are finished, the custom content appears to the player.
To make a player model, they make it in the modeling software of their choice, then have the model be run through a special program separate from the game so it has the correct animations and the animations are tweakable, and I would make it so that you could have 3 hotkeys to play a custom animation as a taunt of sorts.
OLD PLAN:
If I made it, I'd make it uncopyrighted freeware so no one would be able to sue for copyright if someone makes a model of a trademarked character. I'd have the model be run through a special program separate from the game so it has the correct animations and the animations are tweakable, and I would make it so that you could have 3 hotkeys to play a custom animation as a taunt of sorts. When a server is joined, the game sends your character to eveyone on the server, but heavily compressed. The file is uncompressed and put into RAM when the file is needed, so the space taken up would not be excessive.

Or it could be called "It's Bullet Time."

I'm fairly certain it needs to be developed at MIT to get a MIT license.

Can't you do this in Unreal tournament?

I'd like to point out, even if your software is uncopyrighted freeware, the trademarked character still is - to work around this, you would have to use an educational license.
Which I can only see working if it was designed to teach people how to draw characters.

Spore sorta does that, but not like you're saying. Such an obvious idea, and yet so great…. This is one of those things that just needs to be done but yet nobodies thought of it….
You should send an email to Nintendo or Square Enix (forget Nintendo; they'll make it for the 3DS) or someone if you can't program MMORPGs and don't find anyone on Scratch who can.
Just make sure that people still have name tags over their heads so that you can't imitate another guy.

@Everyone complaining about copyright: Those kinds of precautions wouldn't be necessary. Spore lets you make creatures resembling copyrighted material. Do teh companies complain? No. Minecraft lets you make skins resembling copyrighted characters. Do teh companies complain? No. Machinimators use copyrighted characters in their work. Do teh companies complain? No.
Quit yo whining.
I suggest that you make the game free and open source, just in case teh companies are gonna lurk around saying "OH LOOK I FOUND DESE PEOPLE UR GAINING PRFETS OFF OFF OURU WORK OLOLOLOLOLOL!1!!!1!"

What.
Nintendo doesn't make PC games EVER, and Square only does JRPGs.
Plus, I want it to be free. And it is not a MMOPRG, it is a FPS.

Ignoring that spontaneous off-topic abomination, should I write my own engine (lol no) or use a pre-existing one?
I'd probably use Source as it seems to handle custom content fairly well.
