It's the Scratch Team's laziness to humanize the data display functionality.( tongue ) You'll notice on some websites it says(including Scratch) 1 minutes ago as well.

EDIT: Further on this issue
It could also be intentional to be machine readable, so it's easier to be distinguished when the project was made. If we were all machines and didn't care for really grammar, we would say 'now ago' and '1 minutes ago'.
