How to get started

First things first, if you're a new Scratcher, Welcome to Scratch! Scratch is an interactive interface that allows you to create fun, creative projects that allow you to express your imagination. When you first start, Scratch can seem huge. Really big, without a visible starting point in view. Here is a little guide I put together to help New Scratchers get started.

1) Take your time

The most common mistake Scratchers make is rushing through their projects, letting some glitches go by because they can't fix them. Don't Rush! Your first project is probably your most important, shaping your path on Scratch. The first impression is always the most important, so be sure to make a good one! If you need help, post it in the forums. Chances are, someone else will post an answer.

2) Choose a Good Name

Another thing New Scratchers stumble upon is a good name for their projects. Try to choose a name that's not too long, but not too short. Choose one that best fits the description of the project. For example, if your project is about Veterinarians, A name like, 'What A Veterinarians Does In Their Day' is way too long. A name like, 'Veterinarians' is too short, and chances are, there is another project with that name. A good name would be "Life of a Vet".

3) Show and Tell

Once your project is up and running, it's time to do some advertising! Go to the Show and Tell forum, and post your advertisement. Be dramatic! Names like, BeTiled: The Ultimate Puzzler, are just that. This will probably get you about 15 views or so.

4) Make friends

In your free time, when you've got no project ideas, go check out some other projects! If you like it, press the love-it button, maybe even comment! Chances are, the publisher will read your comment, and check out your project! It's a chain! Make friends!

5) Wait

You're probably not going to become famous over night. It happened to me, however. I was one of the lucky ones, and maybe you will be too! But you have to wait. Soon, the views will start piling up.

6) Accept Constructive Criticism

Not all of your comments will say that they love your project. Some will have Constructive Criticism. Don't get mad and deleted them. Read them, and see what they say, then, accept them, and worked on your project to make it better.

7) Haters

There is a difference between Constructive Criticism, and Hating. There is going to be some of both. You ignore the haters. Comments like 'This is Stupid' and 'I Hate this' are meant to be ignored. if they keep adding more of those comments, delete them. If more keep coming, put the users on your ignore list.

8) Don't bask in your success

When your project really starts to get noticed, don't just sit back and enjoy it. Get working on more projects! Soon, the comments are going to die down. It's up to you whether you want to continue it, or fade into the background. Whatever you do, remember to have fun!

Hope I Helped!
