Uncompressed background images

Hello,

Is there anyway to store a project with the background image compressed?

The projects themselves are around 60K, but when I added a background
whose jpg is 90K, the project blew up to over 700K! I am guessing that
you are storing a full bitmap of 480x360 of 4-byte pixels (even though
the image is 24-bit=3-byte!).

Not every school or home computer is equipped to backup or upload
many megabyte-size files. And I don't like to do so either :-)

Can anything be done?

Thanks

Re: Uncompressed background images

Go to Extras and go to 'compress images'. You'll get a window asking about the quality (the default is 70%). Type in the percent quality you want (obviously, the higher the number, the better the quality, but that will mean less compression), then press 'OK' and it should compress the image, making the project smaller.  wink

A bit of a warning though: If I'm not mistaken, SCRATCH can't undo compressions. Once the images are compressed, you may be left with some blurry trash images if you set the quality too low.
