We've been trying to improve the bad word filter lately, so people can finally talk about stuff like skys c r a p ers on Scratch . But if there are other words that set off the filter, but really shouldn't, please post them on this thread. I'll add them to the whitelist so they don't set off the filter anymore.
Don't know which word caused your long comment to get caught by the filter? Try breaking your comment into two halves, and try to post each one as a comment. One of those halves shouldn't show up when you try to post it, because it will set the comment filter off again. Take that half and split it in two, and try to post each one of those. If you keep on splitting the comment in half, you should be able to reduce it down to the single word that sets the filter off.

Ah, so true! Thanks, I'll put that on the list of words to add.
Edit: Done! Should take effect in about 15 mins.

Make sure grapes is on there. You're finally adding a whitelist? Great!

Yeah grapes and grapefruit and trapezoids and 93 others like them are on there. Try them out.

drape? Ok good, Snape? Oh, nothing bad in that. Bass? Must keep thinking of possibly filtered words. sass? crape? Most words are good.

What about assist?

I've never had trouble with that.

Hmmm before posting, try commenting the word on the main site to see if the filter catches it. If it doesn't, great! No need to post it. But if it does, definitely do post it here. Thanks!

Why not just make an algorithm that checks for the combination and if there are letters/spaces on both sides of it? These letters would be dashes, slashes, other stuff that has no use. So, for instance, bgi***odf would go pass the filter, but +/***:. or *** wouldn't.

That's not a bad idea, but then you could still buffer swears with nonsense alphanumeric characters.

Then include those too.

We may end up doing that. The thing is is that the checking function has to be super super fast (it gets called everytime someone leaves a comment). The way it works right now doesn't use regex b/c it's faster...

I think either "*" or "assume" set off the filter.
Yeah - working on the main site right now. Can you test these and let me know for certain if they do or do not set off the filter?

I can't type Shitzu on the forums or comments! Fix!!!
That's because the correct spelling is tzu. I Googled it.
Edit: Did anyone see how he bypassed the filther? Maybe the ST should fix that.

Any word on the forums can get past the filter if it has BBCode in the middle of the word. The ST needs to fix that. In fact, there was a suggestion a while ago suggesting that [b], [i], and [u] be blocked for New Scratchers because of this.

Haha, skyscrapers has another inappropriate word, right next to the one you pointed out!
And this has probably been reported, but grapes.
