Re: Scratch 2.0 FAQ

1. Do you have a place where you are coding 2.0 ? Like GitHub or LaunchPad? If you do, what are the chances of opening that to everyone so they can see the progress or what the most recently worked on file? ( For instance, the home page )

2. Do you plan on recreating the forums to look like the new 2.0 site? I've heard that the Scratch Team is also planning on fixing the forum blocks so they look nicer.

3. If (1) isn't going to happen, how soon will the source be available?

4. Will there be a better Mesh/"socket" system for 2.0?

5. If (4): how do you plan on setting it up? Will there be different ways for connecting, like Mesh and basic Socket operations, or another method? How will the connections work between multiple people? Will servers be hosted on the client through the Flash Player ( on the browser ) or on the Scratch server so there is a possibility to run it 24/7 ( though you can run it 24/7 if the Scratcher feels like going through all the steps to get it to do that )? Will there be a simpler way to connect to other Scratchers?

6. Will there be more advanced features for those of us "advanced" Scratchers, or is the Remote Sensors and custom programming going to be the limit to that?

Some of my questions.  smile

Re: Scratch 2.0 FAQ

soooo many questions...  smile  *wipes brow*
To answer a few - nope, we probably won't release the code before we release Scratch. It takes a lot of time to explain everything to others, and we want to focus our energy getting it done.  I'm not sure when we'll release it.

re: Forums - yeah, they're due for an update too.

re: Mesh / socket / etc. Right now we're working on an extension protocol for 2.0 so that Scratchers can contribute extensions, but it's not clear if this will be in the original release of 2.0 or if it'll wait till later. We *love* that Scratchers mod Scratch, and we want to give them more opportunities to contribute in constructive ways. But allowing and managing extensions / etc. will require a lot of work, so it may take some time. So most of the features you are talking about may have to wait till Scratch 2.1.

Re: Scratch 2.0 FAQ

I am super excited for Django. I've been programming in it for a while, and I am very interested in how it will be programmed, because it'll be in a language I can understand.  tongue

I would suggest making the Scratch application both flash AND the website.

That is all.

Well, you are a Scratch Team Member that knows about 2.0, I may as well get all the info while I can. ^.^

Thanks for your answers, it's exciting to know what to be impatient for! ( haha )

Re: Scratch 2.0 FAQ

Will your copy detector be directly implemented into 2.0?
EDIT: Will there be a "classic" mode for people who want the old interface?
