Lightnin said he'd be interested to see the replies, as am I.
So, what is and isn't ok to talk about on a site for all ages?

In my opinion talk on events like 9/11 aren't always great, as I said on the previous thread. Also talk on things in which people will disagree on a lot shouldn't (and aren't) allowed. (Not simple things, but stuff like religion and such)

I think that deep discussion about stuff like 9/11 shouldn't be there, but just discussing, without too many details, should be tolerated.

Everything that can be turned into a flamewar. That includes everything. So we should just get rid of the forums.

Not necessarily...
Anything that has a really high likelihood of getting turned into a flame war is off-limits: this includes conspiracies, the government, and religion. Anything sensitive, such as suicide, death, and other devastating events such as the Holocaust should be refrained from. Obviously, anything inappropriate is a definite no-no.

That's what I kind of mean.

And there's tons of stuff to talk about that are outside of those parameters.

Controversial issues are obviously not something to post. To me, this includes religious conflict, political issues, or other issues of morality (stem-cell research, abortion, etc.). I never would have thought of conspiracies, but that's a good item to add to the list (thanks coolstuff).
Obviously a post should be appropriate to which category it is in (the most common infraction being" All About Scratch threads being in the "Advanced Topics" section).
There has been a lot of personal issues showing up recently, but as long as they stay in Misc., I don't think they detract from the community, unless they turn nasty
. Posting about personal issues isn't something I'd personally do, but everyone has different levels of support at home, and sometimes anonymity can help in sensitive matters.
As to what is appropriate, anything Scratch-related (and age appropriate), as well as more advanced programming topics (Squeak, HTML, etc.). To me, the main point of the forums is to help Scratchers (or anyone, really) progress in programming. Miscellaneous certainly is very important, but the main point, in my opinion, is support in programming.

That kind of stuff is "flamebait"

My post got deleted. Freedom of press? It was not inappropriate, you can't get rid of a post which doesn't break the rules, I didn't flame, no need to eliminate my post.

To the best of my knowledge, your post wasn't deleted. You posted in another similar topic, though, which I think you may be mixing up with this one.
